Design wall 1/25/16 blue and white rowsย

They’re back……….I had these on the wall several months ago but had to take them down when I started putting the Kansas row by row together.

ย The challenge was to have them ready for our Feb guild meeting. Knowing that wasn’t going to happen, I took them down and figured someday I’d get back to them.

Well, lucky me, the due date got changed to our May meeting so I might be able to do something with it now and make the deadline. Yea!

Our Kansas quilts were shown at our Jan meeting. Here’s a final look at mine.

I’ve been working on my lock in mystery quilt and all I have left is to add the borders. It’s pretty wild but I love it! I’ll share it at a later date.

That’s it for my wall this week. To see more walls go to http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 1/12/16

There’s nothing “on the wall” today, but I have been working on things. Maybe playing would be a better word to use ๐Ÿ˜€. I’ve been playing with the Accucutter. I sewed strips together and then laid them on the cutter and in minutes had them all cut into 2″ pieces.

ย ย

All 200 of them. ๐Ÿ‘

That was fun! Gee…..sounds like I need to get a life!!! Haha!! Anyway, that’s about all I can share at this point. The quilt is a mystery…….

I had a mysterious thing happen the other night. I was sewing the binding onto my Kansas row by row quilt and as I came to the end, I needed to backstich, so I reached up and hit the backstich button and all of a sudden my sewing machine took off like a bat out of h***!!! ย Sewing right off the quilt and still going strong!!! I was like WHOA!!!!!

See where it ran off? It took a few seconds for me to react, so I just touched the same button that I had touched previously. Or so I thought………. It ended up that the button located just ABOVE the backstich button, makes the machine sew without using the foot petal. Hmm……never knew that………now I do! ๐Ÿ˜ณ. Apparently when I hit the backstich button I accidentally hit the auto button and having the machine set at the highest speed, well, there it went!! Full speed ahead!!!

Oh well, now I know what that button with the two round circles is for. It’s there to scare the **** out of you!

Happy sewing!

Plans change……..๐Ÿ˜ณ

I planned on quilting customer quilts today but the old machine was acting up. It’s the machine with the IQ (computer) on it. I use it for pantographs. Anyway, I didn’t trust it enough to load someone else’s quilt on it  so I loaded my Kansas row by row and started quilting it. After lots of adjusting here and there, I finally got it back up to par and working like it should. Whew!  So, although I didn’t plan on quilting mine today, it’s done!

I figured since it was a Kansas quilt I should quilt sunflowers on it, since that’s our state flower.  I love the way the quilted sunflowers matched up with the row of appliqued sunflowers.

I made a scrappy back for it too, so I used up more fabric from my stash! Yea!

Even though things didn’t go as planned today, it worked out because I needed to have my quilt quilted before my guild meeting next week. I sure hope tomorrow’s plan works out! ๐Ÿ˜€  but if not…..I’ll make the best of it.

Design wall 1/4/16 new year, new projects

My Kansas row by row quilt top is still on the wall. I pieced a scrappy back together for it, so it’s ready for quilting. I have a few customer quilts to get done before I can put it on the machine.

I cut out a new quilt last week and I’m anxious to get started on it.

Today I started cutting out my mystery lock in quilt. I decided to keep the green in there, since I know what the pattern looks like, I think it will be fine.

That’s it for now. Check out other walls at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Decisions, decisions…..

Sometimes it is so hard to decide what fabrics to use for a quilt. Our mystery “Lock in” is coming up in March and I need to get my quilt made. We’ve designed a pattern for it, but now we have to get ours made and write the instructions. I’ve been debating between using a black background fabric……

Or using a white background fabric…..

And if that’s not hard enough to decide on………now I’m kind of thinking that I might throw this green into the mix!

I really like that green with that batik!!

Oh!!!! I just can’t decide!! Guess I won’t start cutting anything yet.

Since I can’t decide on the mystery quilt, I thought I’d work on my Kansas row by row today. I sewed the side borders on and added an outside border all the way around so it’s ready to be quilted.

I have to find something to use for a backing. I’ll probably have to make a pieced backing for it. Maybe I can use up some stash!!

That’s it for now.

Design wall 12/14/15 Ks row by row/Wizard of Oz blocks

Ok, back to the KS rbr. I decided not to put any sashings between the rows, just sew them together, that way I could add the extra Dorothy row onto the bottom. I had to add some fabric between the blocks in order to get the width I needed, so I put some ruby slipper fabric in there.

Now the plan is to use more of that leftover Wizard of Oz fabric, so I am making some blocks to add to the sides of the quilt. I fussy cut pictures from the fabric that I had already fussy cut a few squares from years ago.

I could still get a few more squares out of it, but I think the rest of this can go into the scrap box.

I framed each square with a diagonal print that was in the WoZ line and now I’m making them into a square  in a square block.

That block just happens to be the one that I ran out of fabric on. I had to piece a little strip in order to have enough. (I know I’m trying to use up my stash, but I’d rather not cut things THAT close!! LOL!!๐Ÿ˜œ)

Anyway, once I get all the blocks made, I’ll add them onto the sides, then…

Add a border and call it done! I should have it ready for my guild meeting in January. Yea!

So that’s what I have going on today. To see what others have on their walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 12/7/15 string quilt top finished

The top is finally done! Yea!! I just put a thin grey border and then a small black outer border to finish off the top. I do like it much better, now that it’s done and I can see the whole thing laid out.

Now I have to get back to my Kansas row by row quilt………we’re supposed to bring them to our January guild meeting……….I still fon’t have a clue as to what to do with the rows.? Oh well, ย it’s back on the design wall and maybe something will come to me this time.

That’s it for me this week. To see more walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 11/30/15 string quilt ready for borders

I spent yesterday afternoon getting the rest of the rows sewn together. Those cornerstones were a pain but worth it in the end, I think…..

The top has outgrown my design wall as it is measuring about 96″ square. It’s been raining for the last several days so I can’t lay it outside and get a picture, so I folded the top in half, took 2 photos and put them together. Unfortunately there is a white area going across the pic but you can pretty much see what the quilt looks like at this point.

Starting in the upper left corner, you’ll notice the white sashings and they change to grays across the quilt, finishing with the black. I’m not sure if I like it or not………maybe once the borders are on and I can lay it out and see the whole thing I’ll like it better. We’ll see. Good thing is that it used a lot of leftover strings of fabric!! ๐Ÿ‘

That’s it for me today. To see more walls visit http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 11/23/15 progress on the string blocks

I made some progress on the strings blocks this week. All the rows are made, now I have to piece the sashing strips to go in between the rows. I have the first one done and sewn onto the bottom of row 1.

I’ll be glad when this is done. It does brighten up the wall though.๐Ÿ˜€

Anyway, that’s my wall for this week, to see more walls go to http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 11/16/15 strings and book

My wall hasn’t changed much this week. I did sew the blocks together for the next 2 rows. Looks about the same as last weeks photo…….

I got a big surprise in the mail last week. I received an advance copy of my book ๐Ÿ˜ณ I had no idea that I would get one early. I know that you can preorder it on Amazon.com. But, wow, what a nice surprise!!๐Ÿ‘

I guess that’s it for now. Better get back to quilting.
