Temperature quilt

Have you heard of a temperature quilt? I hadn’t until I was over at my friend Barbs house and she had one on her design wall. She explained what they are and told me to check them out online. Wow! I found all kinds of different ways that people are making them. Basically what you do is have a color assigned to different temps and then you sew your pieces together according to what the temp is for that day. Some do high temps while others do low temps and some do both. Barb is doing low temps and she is following the pattern of Linda Lehn.

After looking at numerous temperature quilts, I started going through my stash. I’ve been trying to use up my stash over the last several years so I don’t have a lot to choose from, but I did find a roll of 2 1/2″ strips of Kona solids and a few more solids.

I decided that maybe this will work if I give each strip a 2 degree number. So I made a chart and picked out 47 strips. (Most temp quilts aren’t made with that many colors) I am hoping that we don’t have more than 17 days with the same temp!! 😳

I found this quilt and am hoping that by using 2 1/2″ squares, I’ll have enough… I hope!!

Here is my layout of colors. Going from 0-100 degrees.

I numbered the end of each strip since I am using so many different colors.

Here is the first week of January.

Have you made a temperature quilt??

Design wall 11/20/17 diamond string quilt top

I made slow progress on getting the rows sewn together. I’ve been busy with machine quilting, so my sewing time has been limited. I wasn’t too sure about using that color for the background but I had another color that looked good with it that I could use for the border. (I’m trying to use up my stash).

Anyway, after getting the rows completed, I got the border sewn on and then wondered what I would use for the backing. I didn’t think I would have anything that would look good, but I got lucky and found a couple pieces of leftover fabric that match perfect! I sewed the pieces together and now it’s ready to be quilted. I used the last of the border fabric and cut the binding.

More stash used!! Yea!

The quilt top is on my design wall, since I won’t have time to sew for awhile, I’ll just keep it up there to have some color on the wall. Check out more design walls at http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2017/11/design-wall-monday-november-20-2017.html?m=1

That’s it for now. Have a great week!

Design wall 5/29/17 string stars

I’m ready to add borders onto the quilt from last week. It’s been removed from my design wall and replaced with new string pieces. It’s similar to an old antique quilt top that I purchased a while back.

Before putting the pieces up on the wall, I laid them out on the table……..

Hmmmm…..might need to make a spider web quilt too!

Too many quilts to make and never enough time! LOL!

That’s my wall this week. To see more check out smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com

Design wall 3/27/17 Midnight Magic-gelato style

I am making progress on using the gelato fabric with our Midnight Magic pattern. It was easier than I thought it would be. After I made all the blocks and side triangles I sewed them into the rows and put them up on my design wall.

Did you notice it??? I didn’t until I had the first 3 rows sewn together! Ugh! I was on my way out of the room and heading to bed when I saw it……..at first I thought, maybe I could leave it and nobody would notice it……….but I couldn’t do that………so today my agenda started with fixing it.

After taking the square out and turning it the correct way. I got it sewn back into the top and now I can move on feeling much better knowing that all pieces are turned the correct way.

Hoping to get the other 3 rows sewn together tonight and then it’s border time.

Design wall 2/1/16 finishes

Well, my design wall looks the same as last week. I’ve been looking at those blue and white rows and that’s it. Still undecided on what to do with them………

I figure since I can’t decide on the rows, I’ll get other things accomplished, so I quilted both my snowflake quilt and my deer quilt last week. Yea!! I can now mark them off my UFO list.😀

I also have my cougar quilt cut out and I’m ready to start sewing on it. I had to finish my mystery lock in quilt first, which I did, but can’t share it as it’s a secret.😎

I guess I had a pretty productive week last week. Hope I can get that much done this week! We’ll see………..

Columbine pattern/snowflakes fabric

One of the quilts in my book “Sew,Slice,Spin and Sash”, is called Columbine. I’m so creative when it comes to giving names to patterns, NOT!!! Haha!! Anyway, I designed it using 2 of the same prints but with different background colors.

I had a couple of snowflake fabrics in my stash so I used the columbine pattern and made a snowflake quilt. I finally had time to get it on the machine and quilt it.

I quilted it with a cute mitten pattern.

I used a solid blue flannel for the back so that it would be nice and warm to snuggle up in on a cold winter night.

Now I need to finish the binding and call it done!!

Design wall 12/7/15 string quilt top finished

The top is finally done! Yea!! I just put a thin grey border and then a small black outer border to finish off the top. I do like it much better, now that it’s done and I can see the whole thing laid out.

Now I have to get back to my Kansas row by row quilt………we’re supposed to bring them to our January guild meeting……….I still fon’t have a clue as to what to do with the rows.? Oh well,  it’s back on the design wall and maybe something will come to me this time.

That’s it for me this week. To see more walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

The quilting

I finished the quilting on the guild opportunity quilt, I haven’t taken time to show how it looks with the quilting. I did lots of feathers on it. I knew I wanted feathers in the purple points around the center block.

After doing all the purple pointed areas, I put in a background fill of just random stuff. I did the outside border next because I knew I was going to run a continuous feather all the way around the quilt.

That left only the side setting triangles left I quilted and I wasn’t sure what to put in those areas. Finally I decided that since I love quilting feathers……..yep, I put feathers in them! LOL!!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed seeing the pics. Ticket sales were great at our quilt show last weekend. The drawing is in November. I hope I win!! LOL!!!!!

That’s it for now………..

Design wall Monday 3/19/12

These blocks have been on the wall for awhile. With everything else I’ve been doing, it got put on the back burner. It’s time now to get back to it. I’m working on the sashing pieces and here’s how it’s looking.

I do like it better with the dark color added into the sashing. The blocks alone were just too blah!!
