Wholecloth quilt

Here’s what I did today. If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you know that I absolutely LOVE quilting feathers.
So today I quilted feathers! 🙂

You may not think it’s all that cool, but I do…… I wasn’t sure how it was going to come out when I started quilting it. I think it took about an hour or so to quilt the whole thing. I did McTavishing behind the feathered hearts. Once again, I didn’t know how it would come out. I knew I didn’t want to rip any of the stitches out once I did them. I freehanded all of it. So I got what I got. As for the size of it…………….

Here it is……….

That’s it for now! Have a great day!

What’s on the machines? 2/8/12

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday. Time goes fast!! Anyway, here’s what I’m working on today.

Viqtoria is working away on this one.

I like using this circular design on quilts with lots of squares.

Meanwhile, over on Millie, I have a cute quilt with lots of appliqué.

Quilts like this always take me foreevvveeerrr, because I debate on what to do with each section. Ugh!
Ok, that’s it, back to work here…….

Have a good one!

Flying geese

I’ve been working on FG units today. I do the no waste method. In case you haven’t seen it I’ll share the steps I do to end up with 4 FG units and NO waste. Using 1 large square and 4 small squares…

20120117-203727.jpg

I use a little glue and baste the smaller squares down on the big square, then I mark my lines…..

20120117-203757.jpg

Sew on the marked lines and cut apart, press, then lay one of the small squares on the piece, mark and sew as before….

20120117-203827.jpg

Cut apart and press open. You will now have 4 flying geese units and no waste.

Back to my geese now……

Design wall Monday 1/16

Here’s what I have on the design wall. I worked yesterday getting the rest of the blocks pieced together. I’m putting a pieced sashing between the blocks, which I haven’t cut out yet. Hopefully I can get the pieces cut and sewn this week. I don’t care much for this so far……………….

. I’m hoping I’ll like it better after I get the sashing in there.

Maxine quilt

Tonight is my guild meeting and we are giving away this Maxine quilt. I sure hope I win!!

I will also be showing my first finished UFO for the year. Yea!!! Each month we will have a prize for one person that shows a finished UFO. I wonder if I could be lucky enough to win both the quilt and the UFO prize???? Not with my luck!! But it’s always fun to dream!!

What’s on the machine Wednesday? 1/11/12

Since I am going to try to post more often. I thought I would share what’s on the machine on Wednesdays. This is what’s on Viqtoria, I shrunk the pantograph down to 5″ and I put it between the rows. I took part of the pantograph and am placing it between the blocks. It’s a sunflower pantograph and we thought since this is a Kansas quilt that would be great on it. After I finish that I will put it over on Millie to do the blocks.

I am still working on this one. It’s been on and off Millie numerous times so while I have a little time I am working more on it.

New years day sewing!

What a great way to start the year. Church this morning and then sewing and quilting the rest of the day! I call that a great day!! I worked on the new quilt that I’m making. I have some of the HST’s sewn, the rest of them are marked. I made one of the small blocks that are made of triangle rectangles. That doesn’t sound like it makes sense! Anyway, here’s where I’m at on the progress……

I got the binding attached onto the quilt that I quilted yesterday. I need to have the binding sewn down before my next guild meeting. It would be great to start the new year getting credit for finishing a UFO. This year we’re going to have a drawing at each meeting for anyone that brings in a finished UFO. Maybe I can win a prize. That would be nice!! The quilt is like 100″ square…….wish me luck with getting it done. LOL!!

The rest of the day I was quilting. Hopefully tomorrow will be another productive day.

That’s it for now. I’m tired and going to bed! 🙂

Ending the year busy

I’ve spent the whole day in my workroom! So far I’ve cut out a new quilt. Here’s the fabric I’m using for it.

I hope it looks good after I get it done. I’m writing the pattern for it as I work on it. That takes a lot more thinking! Step one is done so far, the cutting!! Now off to the next step……

I decided to put one of my UFO’s on Viqtoria. I finished 14 of my UFO’s in 2011. I’m so happy about that!! I hope to get lots more done in 2012. I figured I could start the new year off with one quilted. That’s one step closer to getting it off my UFO list.

I’m using a panto that’s quilting really fast. I’m not sure what the name is, it’s the first time I’ve used this pattern.

I have a custom job on Millie, I can’t show it.

I can show the quilt top that I finished a while back. LOL! I don’t think I ever posted a picture after I got all the borders done. Here it is…..

That’s it for now. Hopefully next year I will keep up with blogging a little more often. I seem to go in spurts! Oh well, have a safe and happy new year!

Design wall Monday 10/31

I am slowly making progress on this quilt. I  only have 3 borders left to do. YEA!!!! The top border is sewn on.

I’m still thinking on the corner blocks. I will probably make them like the cornerstones.

Here’s a closeup shot of the center. After auditioning several different ideas…….. I ended up just making a scrappy background, added a dark frame around the block and then I appliqued the block onto the quilt.

I guess that’s it for today. To see more design walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Have a great day!

Design wall Monday 10/24

I made a bit of progress last week on the quilt that’s on my design wall. I made the sashing strips and have them on the wall. The center is still a mystery as to how it’s going to look. I have an idea for the border but I’m not sure on it. I guess I’ll keep playing around with it.
