Design wall 6/6/16

Here’s a quick show of what’s on my wall today. It’s another string quilt that I’ve been playing around with.

All the blocks are sewn into rows and ready for the sashing strips. I’m tinkering around with adding a shadowed border on part of the quilt but haven’t quite decided if I will do that or not. For now it will have to wait on the wall until I get time to get back to it.

That’s it for my wall this week.

Design wall 4/18/16 string quilt

I’ve been having fun making string quilts over the last several months and here is the one that’s on my wall today. All I have left to do is to get the top and bottom black outside borders sewn on and the top will be complete.

I decided to put a string border on this one. What do you think?

Anyway, that’s it for my wall, to see what others are doing check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 3/28/16 strings again

I have all the string blocks made that I need for my next string quilt up on the wall today.  I have a few of the small blocks sewn into bigger blocks but I took the picture prior to getting them made.

I didn’t get much  done with it over the weekend and with other obligations this week, I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to sew on it this week. We’ll see.

Design wall 3/21/16 string blocks

I’m back once again covering my design wall with string blocks. These things can become addictive! I’m planning to make this quilt smaller than the last string quilt I made so it won’t use as many blocks. That’s good because I already have the next one planned.😊

That’s it for my design wall this week. Check out what others are working on at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 12/7/15 string quilt top finished

The top is finally done! Yea!! I just put a thin grey border and then a small black outer border to finish off the top. I do like it much better, now that it’s done and I can see the whole thing laid out.

Now I have to get back to my Kansas row by row quilt………we’re supposed to bring them to our January guild meeting……….I still fon’t have a clue as to what to do with the rows.? Oh well,  it’s back on the design wall and maybe something will come to me this time.

Design wall 11/30/15 string quilt ready for borders

I spent yesterday afternoon getting the rest of the rows sewn together. Those cornerstones were a pain but worth it in the end, I think…..

The top has outgrown my design wall as it is measuring about 96″ square. It’s been raining for the last several days so I can’t lay it outside and get a picture, so I folded the top in half, took 2 photos and put them together. Unfortunately there is a white area going across the pic but you can pretty much see what the quilt looks like at this point.

Starting in the upper left corner, you’ll notice the white sashings and they change to grays across the quilt, finishing with the black. I’m not sure if I like it or not………maybe once the borders are on and I can lay it out and see the whole thing I’ll like it better. We’ll see. Good thing is that it used a lot of leftover strings of fabric!! 👍

Design wall 11/23/15 progress on the string blocks

I made some progress on the strings blocks this week. All the rows are made, now I have to piece the sashing strips to go in between the rows. I have the first one done and sewn onto the bottom of row 1.

I’ll be glad when this is done. It does brighten up the wall though.😀

Rock & Roll progress

I worked a bit more on the rock & roll quilt last night. All that’s left is to add the borders. I haven’t quite decided what I will do with the borders as I would like to put the words Rock & Roll from the panel somewhere in the border. We’ll see…..

When I was deciding on the blocks for this, I needed 8″ blocks, but when you put them into sets of 4 they become 16″ blocks. I didn’t like the size it was ending up using 3 blocks per row, so I used 3 1/2 blocks per row and alternated the half blocks on the ends. The sashing strips help show the blocks. I like the way it came out.

That’s I for now. Have a good day!

Design wall Monday- Rock & Roll!

A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders when I sent off my quilts and manuscript for my upcoming book. I didn’t realize how stressed I was until I finished everything and sent it off. Now I will work on stress free stuff! LOL!!

Anyway, I finally have something new up on my design wall!  I don’t remember when I bought this little panel, so it’s been awhile, but I ran across it this weekend and started thinking about how to use it.

The squares are 8″ finished size, so I needed to come up with 8″ blocks and I wanted something fast! I decided to use a quick strip block and here’s what I have so far. It went together pretty quick, now I need to put a little black sashing in between the blocks. If I can get it done, I’ll give it to my son for a Christmas present. We’ll see how that goes…..

Design wall 7/21/14 basket weave quilt

I had time last night to work on getting some of the rows made on the basket weave quilt. I decided to make the rows and sew them together as I get them made instead of making all the rows and then sewing them together. Here’s what I have so far.

I have almost half of the rows completed. Depending on what size I make the borders, it will end up being approximately 100″ square.

I’m also playing around with a piece if Florida fabric. Not to sure about this…….not exactly coming out like I planned, but we’ll see.
