Taking it on the road……..

Yesterday, Sharon and I attended the Heartland quilt meeting. WOW, was it informative! We attended as professionals as our new adventure is to take our lecture/trunk show about our Mystery quilt Lock in to guilds. We have over 30 mystery quilts for the trunk show.  We received a lot of positive encouragement from the other professionals. There were several guilds that were interested in what we offer. Now we just hope to get some bookings!!

There was so much information being given from other professionals on what they do and what works and doesn’t work. My mind is still on overload with all kinds of ideas. One thing talked about was blogs. So since I have a blog……………….

………to be continued.

Mystery quilt lock in 2011

Wow, another year has gone by and another lock in is over. There is so much work leading up to our fun day and then it’s over before we know it! Everyone seemed to have a great time and several ladies brought thier quilts from last years lock in. It’s always fun to see the different looks to all the quilts! Here’s this years quilt, we called it Stormy Weather. (Luckily we had nice weather this year! We’ve had tornadoes and snow storms in years past! LOL!!)

That’s it for now.

new quilt top started and mystery quilt

Well, I got a wild hair today to make a new quilt. I bought the fabric years ago, with the intentions of making my Aunt Donna a quilt. I thought of her the minute I saw the fabric. Anyway, as the years have gone by………..I have done nothing with it except think of her everytime I see it in my stash. So today, I decided that since she had knee replacement last week and is having a hard time with the recovery, maybe now is the time to make the quilt for her.  So I found an easy quick pattern and sewed this afternoon. I sewed it in vertical sets and just put the sets together keeping them in order and now all I have left is to sew the rows together.

I like the way the rows are all connected and in place. It makes it so easy to just sew rows and not have to worry about getting something turned in the wrong direction because everything is in the right place.

Here it is on the design wall.

I won’t have much time to work on it this week, but hopefully I can finish it soon and get it to her.

That’s it for now.

Oh, I forgot to post the update on my guild mystery quilt. I now have 18 blocks pieced. (Out of 44) I still have a lot more to do, but I’m slowly getting them done. 🙂

Houston, donation quilts, mystery quilts and other stuff

Well, I’ve been super busy these last few weeks. I made it to Houston for quilt festival this year. First time I’ve been. We had a great time and saw some beautiful quilts!! Checked out all the vendors and saw things we’d never seen before. Spent too much money of course, but it was all worth it!!  We had to have our picture taken here…….

Last week was our donation quilt giveaway night. We gave almost 90 quilts to 3 different organizations. They are always so happy to recieve the quilts. Here’s a few pictures I took of some of them.

I’ve been working on my guild mystery quilt too. I finally finished up all those HST’s. Almost 400 in all! UGH!! I do not like squaring up HST’s!!! Anyway, they are squared up and now I’m on to piecing the blocks.I have the squares sewn into rows, now to sew the rows together to make the blocks. I have 3 blocks finished (out of 44)

My LQS was having a great sale today, so I went and bought fabric for my next Lock in mystery quilt. We’re having the Lock in in March, so Sharon and I need to get busy working on our quilts and writing the pattern. Anyway, here’s my fabric choices for this year.

Here’s what’s on the machine. I don’t think I’m ever going to get to the end of this thing. It’s taking forever to get it quilted……..guess I better get back to it.

Well, that’s it for now. Have a great day!!

Weekend update…….

I love weekends! Don’t we all though?

I ran to my LQS yesterday. They were having a little shop hop with 6 other stores in the KC area that have each been featured in the Quilt Sampler magazine. Each store had a 6″ and a 12″ block and then they designed a quilt using everyones blocks from the same fabric line. Here’s the one that was featured at Quilters Quarters. (I’m a bit partial to it, since I did the quilting. Of course you can’t really see it, but……I know I did it. LOL!!!)

Lori did a great job designing the quilt!

Last night my son was downstairs in my sewing room and I showed him my new toy(embroidery machine). He wanted to see it work, so I did his name on a piece of fabric. I gave it to him and he said “gee, now what will I do with it?” So I made it into a miniature pillow! He likes it!

Cute isn’t it? LOL!!

He started coming up with all kinds of ideas for stuff that I could make for him! Maybe I’ll teach HIM how to use it!! LOL!!

Anyway, I’m almost finished sewing all the HST’s from step 2 of the mystery quilt. Then to square them up…….. I will be happy when they are all done! I really hate squaring up all those pieces. I have to keep telling myself that it’s worth it in the end.

I started quilting this top this afternoon. It’s one of those kits that is all crosstitched. The lady that made it said she started it back in the late 70’s.

I guess I better get back to work on it………………….

TTFN!

a few more done

I haven’t blogged this week, so I’ll try to catch up. I did play with my new emb machine one night. Of course I didn’t have the right colors of thread, but I DID figure out a little bit of how it works. 🙂 I have a lot more to learn!!! Here’s my first attempt at trying machine embroidery.

I also, finished the applique quilt that I had been working on. I also quilted a valance that she made too. I wasn’t sure how to quilt it but since I love to do feathers, well…….that’s what it got!

I also quilted a quilt for my LQS.

That’s it. Busy week. I haven’t had time to sew anything this week. I have most of my HST’s marked for step #2. I’ll have to sew them and get them squared up before I can do this months step and I only have a little over a week left of this month. It doesn’t look as if I’m going to get caught up on that any time soon! LOL!!

TTFN!!

HST’s……

My guild is doing a mystery quilt in our newsletter, each month another step is given.  My plan was to keep up with each step. HAHA!!  I’m a little behind……….these are the August step……… I did ok with the sewing part, but dang, having to square up 190 some half square triangles is taking forever!! I’m getting close though! These are the ones I have left to square up. Unfortunatly……..the stack of squares on the left, is last months step. UGH!! More HST’s……this time only 170 some……..I can do it! I can do it!! I’ve been squaring these up while watching TV. I have to get all these done before I can start on this months step. At least this is the last of the HST’s…….

On the bus trip I went on last month, we recieved a pattern and then at each shop we received 2 black and white strips to make the quilt from the pattern.  The pattern is called Jelly Jive and we can put the black and white strips together and then add our choice of color for the rest of the quilt. I chose purples. I sewed a few  purple strips together today. I don’t want to wait too long to make this or it will go in a drawer or shelf and never get made………

I’m still working on the applique quilt on the machine. It’s very time consuming. When I need a break from it is when I’ve been sewing. Guess I’ll get back to work……………….

Have a good day!

all blocks done

I finished the remaining blocks and now I have the first 3 rows pieced. There are 7 rows total, so I’m almost halfway done with the rows. Then to sew the rows together and add the borders. After 9 years, maybe I’ll finish it soon!! LOL!!!

My friend Sharon and I have been asked to do a program in June on mystery quilts, so that’s why I’m trying to finish this top. I have 2 mysteries that needed borders (did those last week), and one more that I need to finish the center and then piece together. Hopefully, I can have these to show that night.

That’s it for now.

Mystery quilts

My favorite books to read are mystery books. So I guess that’s part of why I love mystery quilts. I started out doing mystery quilts on the internet. I found different sites that offered them and I would follow along each week, doing the steps as they were posted. I had fun! I was always anxious to get the next clue. One of my favorites was a tessalations pattern. I could not, I repeat “could not” figure out what the quilt was going to look like, even after I had all the blocks made. Anyway, it ended up being cats. Of course I’ve never seen green and purple cats, but oh well!! Someday I would like to make it in black and whites. Wouldn’t that look good?

This one is Linda Ballards Fractured Crystals. I still have 10 blocks to sew together. I had a hard time trying to figure out the pieces. I finally did. Whew! I only have a few small pieces of the dark fabric, so I was getting nervous that maybe I didn’t have everything cut out, but I finally figured out that I do  have all the pieces.

Anyway, that’s what I’m working on for now. I haven’t written on my blog in ages, but I hope to stay more up to date on it.

Oh, and here is this years mystery lock in quilt. We call it Starry Illusions. Sharon and I got lots of compliments on this one,  everyone seemed to like it.

Have a great day!
