inspired

I’ve been inspired by some of the blogs that I’ve read, to do more piecing on my own quilts. I have a mystery quilt from a class I took almost 8 years ago that was still in the box it came home in. So this week, I decided that I should sew a few minutes on it everyday and maybe I will get it put together someday. I have so many unfinished things. Plus I have so many new things I want to make. Like my Lone star quilt. I haven’t cut the fabric for it yet. I have decided that I will use the pink fabric instead of the light blue. I ordered a bolt of solid black fabric for the background. Hopefully when it gets here I’ll be ready to start cutting.

I guess that’s it for now. I’m going to bed, it’s late and I’m tired. Have a great weekend!

3 more done

Well, I finished quilting 3 more quilts. I finished 1 on Friday, it was a yellow brick road. I did a baby quilt Sunday night and the other one today. picture-1203.jpg

I quilted them differently.picture-1204.jpg picture-1205.jpg

Here’s the borders.picture-1207.jpg picture-1206.jpg I’m glad they are done.

Saturday, I read alot of blogs and some of you were listing your WIP’s. I will not list all of mine because it would take me too long. I will tell you that I have close to 100. Shame on me huh? I will admit that I am a starter. Not a finisher. I start new projects and then move on to something else. I have 30+ quilts of my own that need to be quilted. I have many more that are in various stages. Our guild has a list that you turn in each January with all of your WIP’s and then when you finish one it gets marked off and your name goes in a drawing for each thing you finish. Back in January I had like 85 things on my list and I’ve only finished 2 and I’ve started several other things. So I figure I’m close to 100. (I don’t feel too bad because my friend has way over 100!!)

I guess I better get back to quilting. Maybe someday I will have time to get  some of my WIP’s done. LOL ! LOL! LOL!

Have a great day!!

daisy star

Since my last post I quilted another quilt. This one is called Daisy Star. I don’t know if that’s the name of the pattern or just what my client called it. She made it for her teenage daughter and that’s what she embroidered on the label. Anyway, I thought the quilt was cute when I got it but I had no ideal how to quilt it. I decided that as I went along. I had everything quilted accept for the sashings and I was still reluctant on what to do with them. I finally decided to keep them simple. Here’s how it came out.picture-1187.jpg picture-1188.jpg picture-1190.jpg

Now I need to get downstairs and load the next one on before I have to leave.

Well, I guess that’s it for now. Since going back to work, I have to keep myself away from the computer. I figure that if I update my blog whenever I finish a quilt that will keep me quilting and not spending time on the computer. That’s my goal for now.  I’m not sure how long it will last but I’ll try.

Till, next time…………..

Back to work

Well, my summer vacation is over and it’s back to driving the bus everyday. Oh well, I guess it could be worse. I am going to try and do a better job of updating my blog. Here’s my big yellow fellow. picture-1177.jpg

I finished quilting a quilt last night and I got the binding sewed on it this morning. Now I just have to get it sewn down by hand. I like putting the binding on before I take it off the machine. It’s so much easier than wrestling the quilt around using my sewing machine. I quilted it using Suzannes meandering feather. My customer wanted some butterflies in the quilting too so I quilted the butterflies then meandered around them. It came out pretty good. I hope she likes it. I freehanded the butterflies. picture-1176.jpg
I don’t think you can see them. How do I get the picture to show up bigger but not huge? I just don’t get this stuff.  I’m not computer savvy!! I need real simple!LOL!!

Right now I need to decide  which quilt to put on the machine. I have like 7 that need to be done ASAP. Guess I better get off here and get to work.

Have a nice day!

County Fair

picture-1175.jpg

I’m still trying to figure out how to do pictures on here. I think this is smaller than the last time I tried. I don’t know how to get a thumbnail size.

Oh well, the above picture is of my 2 Grand Champion ribbons that I got at the local county fair. I still can’t believe I won them.

I’m thinking about sending both of these and another quilt to innovations this year. I haven’t quite decided just yet, but I would like to get some feedback on my work. I didn’t win in the $100,000 quilt challenge magazine and I got the quilt back. I was hoping to get some judges remarks on it but they didn’t write anything so I’m not sure what I can improve on it. That’s the other quilt I’m thinking about sending. Let me see if I can add another picture here.

picture-991.jpg  Woo hoo!! I got a thumbnail this time!! anyway, this is the other quilt.

Ok, that’s it for now. Have a great day!

My wholecloth

I finally finished my Wholecloth w/h. I marked it 2 years ago at a class with Karen McTavish. I have always loved the look of wholecloths. I’m glad it’s finally done. I am already thinking about making another one but maybe not doing the cutaway method. I kept thinking that I was going to clip the fabric, but somehow I cut all the batting away without snipping the actual top. I will post pictures of it at webshots. I’m not sure how to get them on here. I tried to upload a pic and it came out huge and you only saw part of the picture.
I’ve been busy quilting this week. I did a huge, and I mean HUGE quilt on Monday. Then worked on another one yesterday and got it about half done. I also sewed the binding on my wholecloth yesterday. Today, I had to run a few errands. Now I need to get back to quilting.

I guess that’s it for now. Have a great day.

crying

I didn’t really cry today, if you had walked in my kitchen this afternoon you would have thought I was. I had tears running down my face and my eyes were burning…..those stinkin onions!!  LOL! I was chopping onions to put in salsa. The tomatoes are finally ready in the garden so I made some salsa.  I hate onions and the recipe calls for 4 cups of chopped onions. If the salsa wasn’t so good I wouldn’t mess with it. But it’s worth it.

I finished the Patchwork Party quilt and took it to my LQS. I’m glad it’s done.

I loaded my whitework quilt that I marked at Karen McT’s class 2 years ago. I only had time to quilt a small amount on it so far. I’m hoping to get downstairs in a little while and work on it some more. I hope I don’t mess it up.

I haven’t heard anything from the magazine yet and she said they’d let the winners know by the 20th, so I guess I didn’t win. That’s my luck. I got close, but being close only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes! Oh well…………

I guess that’s it for now. Have a great day.

long day

I’ll start out by telling a little about myself. I am a quilter. Did you guess that? I do machine quilting on an APQS Ultimate 1 machine. I’ve been machine quilting for 8+years and love doing it. I made my first quilt back in ’89. I hand quilted it and have been hooked on quilting ever since. My sister likes to tell the story of how I said “I WILL NEVER MAKE A QUILT” Well, I had to eat those words. But I was a teenager at the time I said that. I have changed a little since then. LOL! Anyway, if you read in my blog just about everything will pertain to quilting. During the school year I drive a school bus, (24 years) so sometimes you might hear about that or my brother and nephews stock car racing, but mostly I’ll write about quilting. Here goes…..

I’ve been quilting most of the day on a huge quilt. It’s for my LQS. It’s the next Patchwork Party quilt and I wanted to have it done today. I only have a little more to do and I’ll b e finished. Well, that’s what I thought anyway. I noticed that some of the stippling I did on it doesn’t look good. The tension decided to mess up, so now I’ll have to go back and take some of it out and redo it. Some places the tension is fine and then some places it looks like a railroad track on the back!! Oh well, that’s the way my luck goes.

Speaking of luck, I got to send in a quilt for the $100,000 quilt magazine. They ask that the top 5 (from the photos you send in) in each category be mailed in so that they can judge them and then choose the winner for each category from those. I sent mine in but haven’t heard anything yet. I haven’t told anybody that I sent it in. It would be such a thrill to win. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Well, I guess I better go get something fixed for dinner. I’m getting hungry. Then it will be back to the monster quilt on the machine!LOL! Have a great day!
