Design wall 6/20/16 another string quilt

Last week was a busy week quilting, so I didn’t work on this until last night. Since I had the squares all ready all I had to do was sew and cut them, which took maybe an hour. Now they are on the wall and ready to be sewn into rows. Quick and easy….so far.

Anyway, that’s my wall this week. Check out more walls  at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 6/6/16

Here’s a quick show of what’s on my wall today. It’s another string quilt that I’ve been playing around with.

All the blocks are sewn into rows and ready for the sashing strips. I’m tinkering around with adding a shadowed border on part of the quilt but haven’t quite decided if I will do that or not. For now it will have to wait on the wall until I get time to get back to it.

That’s it for my wall this week.

Design wall 3/28/16 strings again

I have all the string blocks made that I need for my next string quilt up on the wall today.  I have a few of the small blocks sewn into bigger blocks but I took the picture prior to getting them made.

I didn’t get much  done with it over the weekend and with other obligations this week, I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to sew on it this week. We’ll see.

Design wall 3/21/16 string blocks

I’m back once again covering my design wall with string blocks. These things can become addictive! I’m planning to make this quilt smaller than the last string quilt I made so it won’t use as many blocks. That’s good because I already have the next one planned.😊

That’s it for my design wall this week. Check out what others are working on at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Strings and a new quilt top made.

Today  was National quilting day and I decided to spend the day sewing. I started out sewing strings together for a new string quilt I want to make. I was happily sewing strings until I couldn’t get to my strips easily……..

I decided not to disrupt Beau so I let him sleep. Strips can wait.

I decided to go through some fabric I had on the shelf and found a piece that I had bought years ago to make a Stack-n-whack quilt. Well, that quilt never got made and when I saw the date on the edge of the fabric I decided that it would NEVER get made.

Yep, If I haven’t made the quilt in 18 years………it’s not going to get made! So, I decided it was time to use that fabric in something else.  I chose to use one of the patterns from my book.

The pattern actually calls for 15 assorted strips but I decided to change it up a bit by using 3 sets of 5 colors. I also decided to time how long it took me to make the quilt top. So, start to finish, cutting to complete top was 4 hours and 10 minutes.

Well, that’s how I spent National quilting day. How’d you spend the day?

Columbine pattern/snowflakes fabric

One of the quilts in my book “Sew,Slice,Spin and Sash”, is called Columbine. I’m so creative when it comes to giving names to patterns, NOT!!! Haha!! Anyway, I designed it using 2 of the same prints but with different background colors.

I had a couple of snowflake fabrics in my stash so I used the columbine pattern and made a snowflake quilt. I finally had time to get it on the machine and quilt it.

I quilted it with a cute mitten pattern.

I used a solid blue flannel for the back so that it would be nice and warm to snuggle up in on a cold winter night.

Now I need to finish the binding and call it done!!

Design wall 7/21/14 basket weave quilt

I had time last night to work on getting some of the rows made on the basket weave quilt. I decided to make the rows and sew them together as I get them made instead of making all the rows and then sewing them together. Here’s what I have so far.

I have almost half of the rows completed. Depending on what size I make the borders, it will end up being approximately 100″ square.

I’m also playing around with a piece if Florida fabric. Not to sure about this…….not exactly coming out like I planned, but we’ll see.

Hopefully tonight I can work more on my rows, for now I have to get back to customer quilts. Have a good day!

Design wall 7/7/14 California fabric

In going through my stash this week, I came across some fabric that I purchased back in 2010, when Doris and I went to The Road to California quilt show. I had to buy some of it just because it was California fabric and This was my first time there.

The print is rather big and I didn’t want to cut it up, so it sat on the shelf…….
Well, last week I looked at it and tried to figure out a way to use it that would be both simple and quick and some way to keep from cutting in to small pieces.
Here’s what I came up with.

20140707-151045.jpg
I played around with different fabrics to use for the sashings and didn’t like any of them until I put a little blue frame around each piece. As soon as I did that, one of the blue fabrics I have will work perfect for the sashing. Yea! More fabrics used from my stash!!
So that’s what I have on my wall today. To see what others are working on, go to http://www.patchworktimes.com

Back to work now…..

Purple scrap quilt

In my quest of trying to use up my stash, I am making progress! I cut up 14 purple fat quarters for this one.
I got the borders put on it today, now it’s ready to quilt.

This is the second quilt that I’ve made from my stash by using this block. It’s a fast block to make so I thought about how to do another quilt using this same block.
I decided to use my blue fabrics. I cut what fat quarters I had and then cut up different scraps of blues. I needed to have 200 pieces cut. I cut them in sets of 50’s and I’m now ready to sew.

In looking for blue fabrics to use, I came across some boxes of fabrics that I didn’t even know I had. Good grief! This is actually ridiculous. It’s no wonder I was running out of room!!
Ok, well, that’s it for now. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. I am determined to use my stash!!

Design wall Monday 4/28/14 batik borders

I decided on a layout for the batik squares. I ended up with something different than any of the choices I posted last time. Now I’m working on the borders. I have the first 2 sewn on. A green and then a light colored batik. I have it hanging on the wall and I’m thinking another thin green border and then a dark batik. (This will use up the 2 scraps I have of the dark batik.) Then I can bind it with the green and use some more of it.

That’s what’s on the wall. I haven’t sewn on it yet today as I’m busy with a custom quilt job on Millie and a veggie quilt on Viqtoria.

Vicky used all vegetable fabrics in her quilt and I found a panto with vegetables, so that’s what it’s getting. 🙂

I remember when I first started machine quilting and the choice of pantograph patterns was slim. Now they have so many great ones out there that it’s sometimes hard to choose one! 🙂

Anyway, that’s what’s going on here, to see what others are doing check out http://www.patchworktimes.com
