Design wall Monday 8/12/13

This is my last Monday of summer vacation. 😦 Summer break always goes too fast…. Oh well, it will be nice to see all my kids Wednesday!!
As for my design wall, I worked on getting some of the flip flops made for my row by row exchange. It takes more time to get these prepared than I thought it would, but they’re coming along. I have 10 sets made so far with 26 more to go!

I found a couple of black and white prints in my stash that I think I’ll use for the blocks.

Storm at sea quilts

I finished the 2nd Storm at sea quilt that I needed to quilt. We were all together at Houston when we bought the kits for these quilts. Pam and Doris bought the same size kit so I have them hanging side by side over the machine to show how each one was quilted. Doris told me how she wanted hers done but Pam said do whatever on hers. She got circles with seahorses in the center. Hope she likes it!

Maybe if I had bought the bigger size kit, mine would be done too! But oh-NO, I bought the miniature. It’s been rolled up for months. I do at least have part of it sewn……

I didn’t realize just how small it is until I laid it beside Pam’s!! Wow.

Speaking of Pam, I have another of her quilts done for her. It has lots of feathers.

A “blue” day…….

I like blue quilts. There’s just something soothing about them…..

I’ve also started cutting out flip flops for my row by row exchange. I realized last night after guild that They are due next month. Wow. Better get them done….or at least started!! 🙂

Visiting sewing rooms

Our guild meeting tonight took us out on the road. We broke into groups and went to see 4 of our members sewing rooms. They all had different ways of storing their stashes, threads, books, projects and setups. It was fun to see their rooms. Makes me want to organize my workspace better!!!

I quilted 4 donation quilts today that I was able to give back to Denise tonight. She’ll get the bindings on them so they can be given away at our November meeting. 3 are Clifford and one is Peanuts.

Guess that’s it for now.

Design wall Monday 8/5/13

I don’t actually have anything on my wall today, but I am working on picking out fabric for a Row by row exchange we are doing at my guild. The theme is Summer so I’ve decided that Flip Flops will be what I make for my row. I made a small wall hanging several years ago using the flip flop pattern from this magazine.

20130805-234139.jpg

For this exchange, I will need to make 6 sets of flip flops for each row. Here’s the fabrics I’ve picked out to use for them.

I’m not sure what to use for the background yet……..

Meanwhile, I’m also working on a Bonnie Hunter scrappy Bargello pattern. I really need to use up some of my scraps! They are taking over!! I used this pattern on a lap quilt several years ago but this time I’m making the big one. Hopefully it will get rid of a few scraps!!

Borders are on…..

WOO HOO!! I sewed the rows together yesterday and spent this evening adding the borders. Now it’s time to get it quilted, bound and call it done!! Yea! Who knew back in 1999 that it would take until 2013 to get the top made…….of course, it didn’t end up as a BOM either!! LOL!! If that had been the case, it would NEVER have gotten done!! LOL!!

Well that’s it. Now I have to decide which UFO to tackle next………

Not your everyday quilting…….

Today I had a quilt on the machine that required creative thinking! LOL!!

I did the borders first and basted through the center of  the quilt, then took it off and turned it cockeyed in order to quilt across it diagonally.

I quilted lines through the design of the quilt, so I made a paper pattern to mark 3 sections (to avoid doing any kind of math! Lol!!)

I have found that’s the easiest route to go on projects like this. Cut a piece of paper the length of the block, then fold for however many lines you need. Mark, and quilt.

i have another quilt like this one, but i think I’ll quilt it differently!! We’ll see. It’s next in line.

Assembly time

I’ve been working to get the blocks done this week. Finally finished them today and sewed the sashings together this evening. Boy they went together quick! I did the cornerstones yesterday. So now everything is ready to start sewing the rows!! Yea! I’m determined to get this top finished, quilted and done!!

Design wall Monday 7/22

Here’s what I’m currently  working on.

each block is made from 16 HST’s. I have lots of them sewn into 4patch units and ready to assemble into blocks.

I still have some to make into units.

I’m also 6HST’s short and I have no more of the fabric that I used for the background. I found one that’s fairly close, so I’ll have a few HST’s that will be different in the quilt, but I don’t think that will matter. I’ll randomly place them here and there. It’s close enough for me……

ok, well, that’s what I’m working on today. Check out more walls at www.patchworktimes.com
