Purple scrap quilt

In my quest of trying to use up my stash, I am making progress! I cut up 14 purple fat quarters for this one.
I got the borders put on it today, now it’s ready to quilt.

This is the second quilt that I’ve made from my stash by using this block. It’s a fast block to make so I thought about how to do another quilt using this same block.
I decided to use my blue fabrics. I cut what fat quarters I had and then cut up different scraps of blues. I needed to have 200 pieces cut. I cut them in sets of 50’s and I’m now ready to sew.

In looking for blue fabrics to use, I came across some boxes of fabrics that I didn’t even know I had. Good grief! This is actually ridiculous. It’s no wonder I was running out of room!!
Ok, well, that’s it for now. I’ll keep you posted on my progress. I am determined to use my stash!!

Scrappy blue squares/borders are on

Woo Hoo! Finally got around to getting the borders added on. My goal was to have this done in July. Since I made it my 10 minute a day project, I now have it ready for quilting! 🙂 ahead of my goal date!! Yea!

20140618-145644.jpg

I’ve made quite a few of these squares while working on the blue scrappy quilt. I think I’ll start doing it as my 10 minute a day project next.

It uses up those scraps that aren’t big enough to use in anything else. I even used a few pieces that were left over from a strip quilt.

That’s it for now. Have a great day!

The Quilted Fox shop

I’m spending the day on the road today. Left early this morning to head to St. Louis, Mo. We stopped in Columbia on our way and shopped at the Appletree quilt shop. That’s a favorite of mine. I stop there every time I pass through town!
Before heading back home, we decided to go on the south side of St. Louis and visit the Quilted Fox quilt shop. It’s different from any shop I’ve been in!
Here’s what you see……

That’s it for entering the Quilted Fox. Not at all what I’m used too! I’m a country girl heading back home now. I just thought I’d share some photos with you, in case you’ve never been to a quilt shop in a ritzy area. You can at least say you’ve seen pictures of one!! LOL!!

I should add that they were really nice and have a large fabric selection!! I found just what I needed!

Better get back on the road……

Design wall 6/9/14 Row-by-row

I didn’t have a lot of sewing time last week, so my rows didn’t get finished on the scrappy blue quilt. I had to take it down off the fall and finish my Summer Row by row quilt top.they are due at guild this week, so I finally got the top put together.

20140609-131950.jpg
The top row had a lot of white background, so I planned from the start to add something there.
I put a partial umbrella. What do you think?

20140609-132143.jpg
I appliquéd it on over everything, then did some fancy machine stitches to make it look like an umbrella.

20140609-132311.jpg
I didn’t want to put a lot into it, just wanted it done!! Now I can get back to my scrappy blue rows! 🙂

Design wall 6/2/14 assembling the rows

My goodness, how did we get to June already? Time sure flies by fast!

I have had a busy week with lots of sewing and quilting getting done. I hope to get this off my design wall this week.

20140602-110627.jpg
I am excited to finally be sewing the rows together! I have half of them assembled!! Yea!! Once they’re done, I’ll sew the sashing strips to go in between the rows. I have them cut along with the cornerstones,

20140602-110924.jpg

I’ve also made more squares for the basket weave quilt that I’m working on.

20140602-114401.jpg
They are so fast to make. I’m not using a foundation for them, I just cut strips around 7″ long or so (I don’t measure them) and just sew them together until they are at least 6 1/2″ wide.

20140602-114710.jpg
Once I get the strips sewn together, I trim them to a 6 1/2″ square.

20140602-115903.jpg
These will go on the wall as soon as I finish up the scrappy blue quilt that’s on there now.

I also pieced my ‘Gelato” quilt last week and it’s going on the machine today for a quick panto.

20140602-120634.jpg

Ok, I guess that’s it for now. I’m ready to get to quilting. Be sure to check out more design walls over at http://www.patchworktimes.com
Have a good day!

4 corners

I’m making progress on my scrappy blue quilt. All that’s left to make is the 4 corner units, then it will be time for assembling the rows!! Yea!!

20140530-223012.jpg
Whenever I hear the words 4 corners, it takes me back to the time that we visited the 4 corners. It was pretty cool being in 4 states at the same time!! Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. It’s the only place the US where 4 states come together.

20140530-223600.jpg
The four corners monument is located out in the middle of nowhere. We were on our way to the Grand Canyon when we stopped there. It was worth stopping by, but once you’ve been there, there’s no reason to go again. Anyway, that’s what brings me to my story about the 4 corners. I’ve been there twice!!
My sister collects shot glasses. she has them from several countries and states……. So when I went to the 4 corners “the first time” I got her a shot glass to add to her collection.
One day she was home alone, and she suddenly hears a loud crash! It took her a while to figure out what it was. Anyway, it was the shelves that held all her shot glasses!! After inspecting the glasses, they were all fine except one. Guess which one was broke?? If you said the 4 corner one, you’re right!! Lucky for her, we were close to the 4 corners a few years later and I was able to replace the broken shot glass. I told her that if this one gets broke, she’ll have to replace it herself, because I don’t plan to go back again!! Isn’t it funny how something totally not related can spark a memory?
The 4 corners……

Design wall 5/26 scraps and scraps

Here it is Monday again and time to show what’s on my wall. I have all the blocks made and I’ve made the first side triangle. See it?

20140526-142732.jpg
Here’s better look at it! LOL! I am making it from scraps too.

20140526-142842.jpg
I’m running low on the strips that I had cut, so I had to cut a few more and now I’m sewing them into sets. I should have enough strips cut now to finish the side triangles.

20140526-143136.jpg

My design wall is still sharing space with the basket weave blocks.

20140526-143237.jpg

I also started another quilt on Friday. I’m calling it Gelato. But no peaking at it yet! I hope to have it done soon, as it is a really fast one to make.

Ok, we’ll that’s it for my wall this week, thanks for stopping by!

Design wall Monday 5/19 sashing

My scrappy blue blocks are still on the wall this week. I only have 4 more blocks to make, then I’ll start making the setting triangles for the sides. I got all the blocks squared up last night and went through my blue fabrics and found one to use for the sashings.

20140519-103233.jpg

I’ve also been making a square a day on the scrappy blocks. Here’s what I have so far. These are so fast!! 🙂

20140519-103433.jpg
I have to hurry up and finish the blue squares in order to have room to put up the basket weave blocks. As you can see, there’s not much room! LOL!!

Anyway, that’s my wall for this week. To see more design walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Thanks for stopping by!!

New scrap quilt

I have a bad habit of “starting” quilts! I’m trying to get the ones finished that I’m currently working on but the fabric pile of leftover strips is sitting there piling up, so I decided to start sewing them together. Bonnie Hunter has a pattern called Basket Weave Strings. My daughter made one several years ago and I always liked hers, so I decided that it was time I made one for me!
I’m not using a foundation like Bonnie shows, I’m just sewing the strings together, then cutting them into the squares. I hope to make one square a day. I made 2 last night and 1 today. We’ll see how it goes. I made the first 2 blocks too dark, so I have to remember to use lights in them.

20140515-131449.jpg

I’m caught up on customer quilts that need pantographs done, so I got both my batik ones quilted. Binding attached and ready of be sewn down. That makes 4 needing the binding sewn down. I might have to break down and do some by machine, if the pile gets much bigger.

20140515-154229.jpg

I also finally finished quilting the huge Generals Wives quilt that I’ve been quilting. 125″ square. This is the last one on my list. I’ve done about 7 of these. 3 of them being king size! Whew!!

20140515-154632.jpg

That’s it for now.
