Design wall 3/29/15 log cabin

We had a fun filled weekend with the ladies from down by Wichita. We taught them a mystery quilt and had time to sew on our own projects too. I got a few hundred Flying geese made. Whew! Once I got all the FG done I was able to start constructing the blocks. I finished 4 blocks and now they are on my design wall. Yea!  I’m anxious to get the rest of the blocks made and get the quilt completed.

Here’s a look at our mystery quilt from this years lock in. We taught them the same mystery at the retreat. I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s completed quilts.

That’s the only good picture I have of mine. We used it for the front of the pattern.

Now I have to get back to work on the LongArm. I’m hoping to have  some sewing time in the evenings this week.😊

Mystery retreat weekend, packing.

Decisions, decisions, what do I take? This weekend I will be going on my first weekend retreat and I’m looking forward to it. The hard part is deciding what projects to take along with me to work on. Last week I marked my Idaho block and I’ve gotten this much of it done already, so it will be going along. Maybe I can get it finished and start the Illinois block, which I have marked and ready to start.

Being off work last week and taking a quick little road trip allowed me time to work on this in the car. My goal is to get one of these blocks done each month and this is block number four for this year, which means I’m ahead of schedule. Yay!

I have a quilt cut out and packed so hopefully I will have time to get some of these blocks made.

It’s made of flying geese and log cabins. I’m really wanting to get it made so that will be my top priority.

I have some of the what do quilters think panels that I bought several years ago and finally decided what to do with them to get them out of my stash. I’m going to use some of my purple fabrics and make the squares into star blocks so I cut out a few of the pieces for those blocks last night. I will take it along too, just in case I decide I’m tired of working on my other two projects.

That’s what I have planned to take along so far. Whether or not I get anything done “who knows?” LOL!!

I finally finished adding the last border into my scrappy quilt.

That was a fast fun quilt to make! Now to get it quilted and bound.

I couldn’t find anything in my stash that I liked for the border on my HST block quilt, so I took the top to my LQS and found a great fabric for the border.

I still have to add both a light and a dark border before I add that outside border. Another top from my stash. Most of it anyway!!😃

Guess that’s it for now. Have a great day!

Design wall 3/16/15 embroidered block and HST’s

My design wall hasn’t changed much this week. All I got done was to sew the sashing strips together. Hopefully sometime this week I can sew all the rows together and get the borders on.

I finished up my Hawaii block last night.. Yea!! I marked Idaho today😀. That makes one block a month so far this year!! I’m hoping I can stick to that schedule the whole year.

That’s it for me today. To see what others are working on check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 3/9/15 mystery lock in and HST strips

Another week has flown by and spring is getting closer! I had a super busy week getting ready for our annual mystery lockin on Saturday. We had 80 ladies there, sewing away all day. It’s always fun to see the variety of colors that are chosen for their mystery quilts. Here is a pic with a few of the ladies with their blocks that went up on the wall.

We aren’t showing the finished quilt yet.

We had lots of show tell of last years quilt. It’s Double D’Lite. Here’s a few pics of some of them.

And finally, I played around with the HST’s I was sewing last week and have them on the deign wall. The rows are sewn and I’m working on getting the rest of the sashings pieced together.

It has gone together fast. I strip pieced some 2 1/2″ strips together, then cut them into squares and made HST’s.  I’m using up more of my stash! Yea!!!!

So, that’s what I have on my wall. To see more design walls, visit http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 3/2/15

I’m almost finished with my latest quilt top. It’s gone together quite quickly actually. I’m trying to use up scraps, and sewing  strings together is like a thoughtless process. I wanted something different so I came up with this.

All I have left to do is to add the black border. Woohoo! Then I can move on to the next quilt top. Actually, I’ve already started it. No, that’s not true……I’ve started 2 more quilts! LOL!

This one is going to be strings sewn diagonally.

I don’t want the bulk of using muslin for a foundation, nor do I want to take and pull paper after I sew them, so I am using dryer sheets as my foundation. They are thin and are working great!

The other one, is just some strips I sewed together and now I’m making big HST blocks. Pretty simple, just using up fabric.

Well, that’s it for my wall this week. To see more design walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Have a great day!
