Design wall Monday 10/31

I am slowly making progress on this quilt. I  only have 3 borders left to do. YEA!!!! The top border is sewn on.

I’m still thinking on the corner blocks. I will probably make them like the cornerstones.

Here’s a closeup shot of the center. After auditioning several different ideas…….. I ended up just making a scrappy background, added a dark frame around the block and then I appliqued the block onto the quilt.

I guess that’s it for today. To see more design walls check out

Design wall Monday 10/24

I made a bit of progress last week on the quilt that’s on my design wall. I made the sashing strips and have them on the wall. The center is still a mystery as to how it’s going to look. I have an idea for the border but I’m not sure on it. I guess I’ll keep playing around with it.

Busy? Am I busy?

This is one of those days where I feel like I’m not getting anything accomplished. I’m busy, but nothing is getting finished…. I have one of my quilts on Viqtoria, getting an all over design quilted on it.

While it’s quilting, I’m working on  the quilt I have loaded on Millie. This thing is taking forever to quilt.

When I need a break from quilting, I go over and sit at my sewing machine. I decided to make little 4 patch units and sew them together into strips to put in the sashing. I went through my scraps and pulled out the blues. I sewed strips together and then cut them into 1 1/2″ pieces. I think I did way more than I’m going to need!!

I have a lot of them sewn together into the 4 patches.  What was I thinking???

Anyway, I’m just flying by the seat of my pants (as the saying goes) as I build this into a quilt of some sort!!

Ok, my break is over, I better get back to quilting. I need to make the binding strips for the quilt that’s on Viqtoria. It’s getting close to the end and I always put the binding on before taking it off the longarm.

Hope you’re  having a productive day!

Design wall Monday 10/17

Years ago in my guild we had a BOM exchange where we would choose what block we wanted. I had the ladies make their favorite 12″ star block using blue fabric (and light yellow if they needed another color). Anyway, here are my blocks. I need to make one more 12′ block. The center block is larger than 12″ so my problem is how to put the blocks together into a quilt top……….I’m thinking of putting the center block on point and somehow coming up with something to fill in the blank areas. I know I’ll put sashings between the blocks, but what to put behind that center one is the puzzling question……….For now it’s on the design wall, and I’m waiting for it to talk to me. LOL!!

Have a good one!!

Design wall Monday 10/10

Well, I finished the mystery quilt top that has been on my design wall for ……I can’t remember how long it’s been there! LOL!! Anyway, it’s done. YEA!!!

After completing that top, I wasn’t sure which project to tackle next, so I went through some of my really old UFO’s and came up with this one. I look  at it and think “WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS I THINKING????”  I know why it went in the box and hasn’t seen daylight in years!!  I printed the pattern off the internet back in 2001.

I think I’ve lost some of the instructions. Anyway, I remember that I really liked the quilt back when I saw the pattern. It’s made like the bullseye quilts except that you don’t cut the flowers apart. The leaves are supposed to be appliqued, but I don’t like applique so I thought, I can just do them raw edge like the edges on the flowers. Now I’m not so sure that was a wise choice. I can’t decide if I should take off the leaves and applique them down or just continue doing the raw edge that will fray……….? Anyway, the quilt top is on the design wall and will stay there until it’s done.

That’s it for this weeks wall, to see more of what others have on their design walls check out

Have a great day!

Design wall Monday 10/3, bus trip and AQS show

Here it is a Monday again……I’ve been busy the last couple of weeks and have not done much sewing on my mystery quilt. I have some of the borders sewn together, but I still need to finish sewing the rows of the quilt together and then add some small borders around the top before adding the pieced borders. Here’s what the pieced borders are looking like.

I had a great time on the bus trip a couple weeks ago.  We went to 12 shops in 6 states. Our bus left from Leavenworth, Ks and went to Hiawatha and Belleville, KS, then off to Grand Island and Omaha, NE, then to Souix City IA, Souix Falls SD then over to Bird Island, Rogers and Hayward MN, Ankeny IA and Cameron MO. That was a lot of traveling and shopping in 3 days! We  saw lots and lots of awesome shops! We had a great group of ladies on the bus. I’m ready to go again!! Here we all are!! Larry our bus driver even got in the picture. He was so nice!!

I picked up some black and white fabric that had sewing notions on it from one of the shops and then later I bought a pattern for a quick bag. After I got home I decided that I would use the fabric I bought and add a solid black and some fabric with scissors (since I needed 4 fabrics) and make the bag from it. It was a great bag to carry stuff in. I used it Saturday at the AQS show.

Last Saturday I headed up to the AQS show in Des Moines. Our guild decided to rent a bus for the trip. We left at 5:00 AM. Ugh!! Yes it was hard to get up at 3:30 in the morning!! Anyway, we got to the show at 9:00 and saw all the beautiful quilts that were there.  I didn’t do much shopping at the show, I was a bit shopped out from the previous weekend! LOL!! My friend Janet won the Best machine workmanship award. We were so excited !!

Now back to the grind…..I’m working on a Judy Neimeyer quilt. I have to get this done. I better get back to work on it.

Hopefully next week I can show more progress with the quilt that’s been on the design wall for way too long!! To see more design walls check out

Ok, back to work for me! Have a great day!!
