Black vs white background

Since I decided to do the 31 day blog challenge, I’m having to come up with topics to write about. After looking back through my pics from the last year, I came across a quilt I had made earlier this year and then did the same design on the blue string quilt that I just pieced. So my question to you is….which do you prefer?

This quilt is made from a variety of different colored strings with a black background.

This one is the same pattern but I only used blue fabrics with a white background.

So…….which one do you like better???

I like the……………🤭

Design wall 11/20/17 diamond string quilt top

I made slow progress on getting the rows sewn together. I’ve been busy with machine quilting, so my sewing time has been limited. I wasn’t too sure about using that color for the background but I had another color that looked good with it that I could use for the border. (I’m trying to use up my stash).

Anyway, after getting the rows completed, I got the border sewn on and then wondered what I would use for the backing. I didn’t think I would have anything that would look good, but I got lucky and found a couple pieces of leftover fabric that match perfect! I sewed the pieces together and now it’s ready to be quilted. I used the last of the border fabric and cut the binding.

More stash used!! Yea!

The quilt top is on my design wall, since I won’t have time to sew for awhile, I’ll just keep it up there to have some color on the wall. Check out more design walls at http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2017/11/design-wall-monday-november-20-2017.html?m=1

That’s it for now. Have a great week!

Design wall 10/30/17 diamond string blocks

I made diamond blocks to use in the border of my last string quilt and after making them I decided to make a quilt using the diamond blocks. I spent some time yesterday getting the blocks made and up on the wall.

I’m not looking forward to having to match up all those points………..😳

That’s it for my wall this week. Check out more walls at http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2017/10/design-wall-monday-october-30-2017.html?m=1

Borders are on

I’ve had a busy week, but managed to find time to get the borders added on to my latest string quilt.

After posting pictures of my pieced borders, I got some positive remarks about them, so I designed another quilt using the diamond shapes. There seems to be no end to the use of strings!!

Design wall 9/26/17 string progress

My design wall this week still has the string blocks on it. They are now sewn into rows and I have the sashings sewn. Hopefully I can find time soon to get the rows and sashings sewn together and then make the pieced border.

That’s it for now. To see what others are working on check out http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2017/09/design-wall-monday-september-25-2017.html?

Design wall 5/29/17 string stars

I’m ready to add borders onto the quilt from last week. It’s been removed from my design wall and replaced with new string pieces. It’s similar to an old antique quilt top that I purchased a while back.

Before putting the pieces up on the wall, I laid them out on the table……..

Hmmmm…..might need to make a spider web quilt too!

Too many quilts to make and never enough time! LOL!

That’s my wall this week. To see more check out smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com

Purple string quilt ready for quilting

I finished the purple string quilt tonight and it’s now ready to be quilted.

It will get an edge to edge quilting design on it.  The string sashing was perfect for finishing off those blocks. This quilt will be one of the quilts I will show in my lecture on string quilts that I am working on putting together.

Now back to sewing more strings!

Design wall 12/5/16 purple string quilt

I have become so addicted to string quilts. Whether I’m making squares or sashing units,it doesn’t matter. I just love sewing those strings together and coming up with different ways to put them together into quilts!
I bought these blocks online probably 16 years or so ago. At the time I thought it would be a fast way to put a quilt together  (save time by not having to piece the blocks) and have something to practice my machine quilting on.

Needless to say, I never did get them made into a quilt top.

I always knew I had them in a box somewhere………but where?????

I finally ran across them this last week and knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. I started pulling purple strings from my string basket and cutting a few more.

I’m hoping to find time this week to work on getting the sashings finished. I have all the string pieces made, just need to sew them together to make the sashing units.

But right now I have to get back to the longarm. Check out more design walls at wwwpatchworktimes.com
