Blue scrap quilt

Sharon and I were in Ark City, Kansas last week (Sunday and Monday) for a program and workshop. We had a great time with wonderful ladies! I took my blue scrap quilt along and worked on the binding in the car and
whenever I could find a few minutes here and there. I finally finished it after getting home.

Another quilt made from my stash! Yea! I have several more ready to cut and I came up with a few more ideas today. My stash is dwindling and I am happy!!! I hope I can continue. 🙂 This is fun seeing how much I can use.

That’s it for now.

Time to sew

Woo HOO! I sewed the last of the squares together today and now it’s assembly time!! 181 squares!
They don’t look like much stacked up in a pile.

The setting triangles are cut too. I will decide on the borders later. Hopefully I can get some time this week to assemble this. I am glad all those squares are done. 🙂

More to come later……

Design wall 6/30/14 big blue blocks

I sewed the strips together that I cut last week. I put what would fit up on the wall today to take the picture.

I decide to make 25 blocks for this quilt. The rest of the blocks didn’t fit on the wall.

I’m not going to frame the blocks like I did on the purple one.
I’m planning to put a 1″ sashing between the blocks. Hopefully that will happen this week.

Meanwhile, my 10 minute a day squares are getting made too. I figured up that I will need 181 squares. I have 100 made with 81 left to go!

Design wall 6/2/14 assembling the rows

My goodness, how did we get to June already? Time sure flies by fast!

I have had a busy week with lots of sewing and quilting getting done. I hope to get this off my design wall this week.

I am excited to finally be sewing the rows together! I have half of them assembled!! Yea!! Once they’re done, I’ll sew the sashing strips to go in between the rows. I have them cut along with the cornerstones,

I’ve also made more squares for the basket weave quilt that I’m working on.

20140602-114401.jpg
They are so fast to make. I’m not using a foundation for them, I just cut strips around 7″ long or so (I don’t measure them) and just sew them together until they are at least 6 1/2″ wide.

Once I get the strips sewn together, I trim them to a 6 1/2″ square.

These will go on the wall as soon as I finish up the scrappy blue quilt that’s on there now.

I also pieced my ‘Gelato” quilt last week and it’s going on the machine today for a quick panto.

Ok, I guess that’s it for now. I’m ready to get to quilting. Be sure to check out more design walls over at http://www.patchworktimes.com
Have a good day!

New scrap quilt

I have a bad habit of “starting” quilts! I’m trying to get the ones finished that I’m currently working on but the fabric pile of leftover strips is sitting there piling up, so I decided to start sewing them together. Bonnie Hunter has a pattern called Basket Weave Strings. My daughter made one several years ago and I always liked hers, so I decided that it was time I made one for me!
I’m not using a foundation like Bonnie shows, I’m just sewing the strings together, then cutting them into the squares. I hope to make one square a day. I made 2 last night and 1 today. We’ll see how it goes. I made the first 2 blocks too dark, so I have to remember to use lights in them.

I’m caught up on customer quilts that need pantographs done, so I got both my batik ones quilted. Binding attached and ready of be sewn down. That makes 4 needing the binding sewn down. I might have to break down and do some by machine, if the pile gets much bigger.

I also finally finished quilting the huge Generals Wives quilt that I’ve been quilting. 125″ square. This is the last one on my list. I’ve done about 7 of these. 3 of them being king size! Whew!!

That’s it for now.

10 minutes a day-4/10/14

My design wall has had the same blocks on it for several weeks now. During that time I’ve completed several other quilts, but those poor scrappy little blue blocks are getting neglected. So I am hereby going to dedicate 10 minutes each day to sew on the blue blocks.
As of today I have 10 blocks sewn and I need 32.
My goal is to have the top done by July. Hmmm….better go do my 10 minutes for today…..luckily I have a few 9 patches sewn already, maybe I can finish a block in my 10 minute time frame!! 🙂
