Design wall 8/22/16 apples & progress on Uneven bars quilt top

With school starting back up last week, I didn’t have as much time to sew as I would’ve liked. Between the Olympics, the school bus and canning tomatoes, I had a pretty full week. I was hoping to get a break from the kitchen but my husband came home from his dad’s with a basket of apples yesterday.😳 now it’s apple pie time…….

I make the pies up and freeze them, then over the winter when I need a pie I just take it from the freezer and bake it. That part is nice! But it means spending more time in the kitchen this week. Ugh!

I did get most of the Uneven bars quilt top made. All I have left is to add the borders. It looks so different from the one made with black sashings. Looking forward to seeing it with the borders.

That’s it for now. Check out more walls at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 8/15/16 Kaffe strings & new project

Today is the last Monday of my summer vacation.😟 School starts back up on Wednesday, so it’s back to driving the big yellow fellow. He’s back in the driveway and ready to go.

I’ve been wanting to make another quilt from my book and decided that this chevron print will work. I have a couple of snack packs that I can pull the strips from.

I decided to make this pattern.

Hopefully I can get it made this week.

I’m currently working on another string quilt. I’m using Kaffe fabrics in it. The strings…..

The squares…..

I have a few more to make, so I might sew the Uneven bars quilt when I take a break from sewing strings.

That’s it for my design wall this week. Check out more walls at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 8/8/16 string borders

Here it is, another Monday has rolled around. I missed posting my design wall last week as we were on our way home from a quick vacation and then jumped right into work that needed to be done. Fruits and vegetables were ready to be picked and dealt with. I’ve got a freezer full of peaches, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and cantaloupe, all ready for smoothies! Yum!! The tomatoes are slowing coming around, but finally did get enough to can a few quarts yesterday.

We went through Omaha on our way home, so we stopped at Accuquilt and I finally broke down and bought the Accuquilt Go Big. I’ve been having fun cutting strips for more string quilts.

I managed to get a couple of my quilts on the machine last week and did quick panto’s on them.  I’m only showing the block on this one.

The other one I did was a variation of our Cinema pattern.

I had the top made but couldn’t decide on a backing. Saturday, I ran across a couple of fabrics in my stash that had polka dots, so I figured I’d make a pieced backing and use up some more of my stash.

Used up every bit of both fabrics! Yea!!

I’m not showing the quilt that’s on my design wall this week, but it’s getting a string border, which is what I’m working on today.

That’s it for me. To see what others are working on visit http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 7/25/16 leftover squares

I’m working on a new string quilt design and ended up having some leftover 3 1/2″ squares. I sewed the squares together into blocks and now I need to decide on a layout for them. I’ve laid the blocks out several ways and This is  what I’m thinking…….now.

I took some small pieces of black fabric and filled in the background areas to get a better idea of the finished look.

I like it and this is probably the layout  I’ll go with…..but then you never know…..I could change my mind again.😳

Design wall 7/11/16 star blocks

I ran across these green blocks that I bought many years ago and decided that now is the time to get them made into a quilt. (I have a set of purple blocks too that I bought from the same lady. Haven’t came across them yet.) Anyway, I hung them on the wall and have a plan to make some pieced sashings and cornerstones.

Last week I had the stars cut out for a string quilt and got it put together, I ‘m not sharing the quilt yet, but here’s how the blocks look.

I finished quilting 2 of Yvonne’s quilts and got them sent to her last week. She likes doing wool appliqué.

Great work Yvonne!!

Design wall 7/4/16

I have my latest string quilt still hanging on the wall. I got the last border put on and it’s ready to be quilted.

My next project has star blocks in it, so I have some of it cut out.

I had a couple of my quilts that needed the binding finished, so I got them done last week. The first one, I used one of the patterns from my book Sew,Slice, Spin and Sash.

This is the one made from Barb Eikmieir’s fabric line from Paintbrush studio. Here’s the link for the block. https://alwaysquilts.com/2016/04/22/vintage-shirting-blog-hop/

Glad they’re both done.

Design wall 6/27/16 string quilt borders

Just a quick update here on my design wall today. I planned on getting all the borders sewn on yesterday but we ended up taking a 4 hour road trip to visit relatives. It was a nice day even though we came through rain on the way home. This cloud was pretty neat looking.

It was just a long narrow cloud going acros the sky underneath all the other clouds. Once we passed under it the sun came out. We were hoping that it might have rained at home while we were gone, but no……still dry as a bone. Oh well.

I grabbed my current state bird embroidery block as we went out the door, so that I would have something to work on in the car.

I got the bird done. 👍🏻

I really need to get back to working on these blocks more often. This one is Kentucky……..if I ever make it to the M’s, they’re going to take forever, with all the states that start with M.😳

Anyway, back to my design wall. I had a little bit of time after we got home last night to at least get the first 2 borders sewn on.

I’m going to put a solid black border on next, to finish it off, then call it done. So that’s my wall, to see more go to http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 6/20/16 another string quilt

Last week was a busy week quilting, so I didn’t work on this until last night. Since I had the squares all ready all I had to do was sew and cut them, which took maybe an hour. Now they are on the wall and ready to be sewn into rows. Quick and easy….so far.

Anyway, that’s my wall this week. Check out more walls  at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 6/13/16 string quilts

I worked over the weekend getting the borders put on the string quilt that was on my wall last week.  My first plan was to only put a string border on the right side and bottom then put the shadow behind them. As I looked at the quilt, I decided that maybe putting a string border all the way around the quilt would look better, although I’m still thinking about that partial string border idea…..😳 maybe not…..Meanwhile, I cut fabric for my next string quilt and when I get time I’ll start sewing on it. It should go together quickly, if I can find time to work on it.

Here’s the finished top from last weeks design wall. Do you like the border??

That’s what I’m working on this week, to see more design walls go to www.patchworktimes.com, I’m also linking up with http://quiltingismorefunthanhousework.blogspot.com/ if you want to see what others are doing with scraps.
