Black vs white background

Since I decided to do the 31 day blog challenge, I’m having to come up with topics to write about. After looking back through my pics from the last year, I came across a quilt I had made earlier this year and then did the same design on the blue string quilt that I just pieced. So my question to you is….which do you prefer?

This quilt is made from a variety of different colored strings with a black background.

This one is the same pattern but I only used blue fabrics with a white background.

So…….which one do you like better???

I like the……………🤭

Design wall 11/20/17 diamond string quilt top

I made slow progress on getting the rows sewn together. I’ve been busy with machine quilting, so my sewing time has been limited. I wasn’t too sure about using that color for the background but I had another color that looked good with it that I could use for the border. (I’m trying to use up my stash).

Anyway, after getting the rows completed, I got the border sewn on and then wondered what I would use for the backing. I didn’t think I would have anything that would look good, but I got lucky and found a couple pieces of leftover fabric that match perfect! I sewed the pieces together and now it’s ready to be quilted. I used the last of the border fabric and cut the binding.

More stash used!! Yea!

The quilt top is on my design wall, since I won’t have time to sew for awhile, I’ll just keep it up there to have some color on the wall. Check out more design walls at http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2017/11/design-wall-monday-november-20-2017.html?m=1

That’s it for now. Have a great week!

Borders are on

I’ve had a busy week, but managed to find time to get the borders added on to my latest string quilt.

After posting pictures of my pieced borders, I got some positive remarks about them, so I designed another quilt using the diamond shapes. There seems to be no end to the use of strings!!

Design wall 9/26/17 string progress

My design wall this week still has the string blocks on it. They are now sewn into rows and I have the sashings sewn. Hopefully I can find time soon to get the rows and sashings sewn together and then make the pieced border.

That’s it for now. To see what others are working on check out http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2017/09/design-wall-monday-september-25-2017.html?

Design wall 6/20/17 string star quilts

My design wall is bare today, I hope to fix that soon, as I am working on my next string quilt.

Last time I posted, my design wall had the beginning of the string stars quilt on it. It is now finished.

After finding an old string quilt top in an antique store I decided that it would be fun to make the same pattern with today’s fabrics. The old top (right) is dated back to around the late 1800’s judging by the fabrics used in it. (I’ve been told)  Mine (left) was made from scraps from my stash over 100 years later.  Anyway,  here they are side by side.

This quilt was a challenge to get made, but it’s done and now I’m going back to making squares for my string blocks! LOL!!

Design wall 3/13/17 more fun with strings & Triple play quilt

Life’s been busy the last few weeks and I haven’t had (or rather taken) the time to post anything. I did finish my Triple play quilt top and it’s quilted and bound. Yea!

We held our annual mystery lock in day earlier this month. Everyone was busy sewing all day and appeared to have a great time. We had lots of show and tell of last years mystery quilt, Knotty Times.

Also lots of Midnight Magic quilts from the 2015 lock in.
It’s always fun to see all the different colors that the ladies use. They all look great!!

We are hosting another mystery day next month so  you’ll have to stay tuned to see our latest mystery quilt.

I finally got back to working on a new string quilt and I am currently sewing the rows together. It’s on the design wall this week. When I get time I will finish sewing them together and get the borders added on.

That’s it for today. To see more walls, check out www.patchworktimes.com
