Design wall 9/12/11

This isn’ t actually on the wall, but for this week I’m going to devote at least 10 minutes a day to work on these blocks. I have the 6″ blocks complete and the rest are 9″ blocks. This is a mystery quilt that I’m making, so I don’t know what it’s going to look like.

Here’s the back of the current quilt that’s on Millie. I need to focus on getting this done. I love making feathers fit into odd spaces. LOL!! 🙂

I better get back to work. Check out more design walls at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Have a great day!

3 more UFO’s done

They are almost done anyway…… just have the bindings left to hand sew down. I like to do those on road trips and I have a couple of road trips coming up, so I will have them ready to go. I’m going on a 3 day  bus trip hitting 6 states and I think 12 quilt shops and then the following Saturday, we’re taking a bus up to the AQS show in Des Moines, so I can work on bindings while traveling on the bus. Last year I finished 2 bindings while on the bus trip.

This one is 104″ square.

This is a Row by Row quilt that I made at guild. I forget how many years ago we had the swap, I know it’s been sitting in the drawer for a long time. Well, no more!! This year I can have it out for fall and enjoy it. 🙂

My friend Sharon made the row with the turkeys.     I made the acorns.

I don’t remember who made the other rows.

I had taught a class years ago on making the Maple leaf blocks, so I took the 3 blocks I had made for the class and added them onto the top of the quilt, (since I wanted it bigger than it was going to come out). I needed something to fill the space on both sides, so I drew some flying geese on paper and paper pieced them and was amazed that they came out!! LOL!!

Here’s the last one I finished this week.

Well, that’s it…….now I’ll have to decide which UFO to tackle next. 🙂

Have a great day!

Design wall Monday 9/4/11

I finally got around to getting the last border sewn on this morning. The top is finished and ready to quilt. Yeah!

I used this quilt design on a customer quilt yesterday. I like the way it looks, so I think I might use it for my quilt. Maybe this week I’ll have time to get the back cut and get it quilted.

I’m currently working on getting the fall patchwork party quilt done for my LQS. I love the colors they used on it. I can’t share any pictures of it yet……but while Millie and I work on it, I think I’ll have Viqtoria work on another one of my UFO’s. I always planned on doing custom quilting on this, but after years of it sitting in the drawer unquilted, I decided that with all the beautiful pantograph patterns that are available, an allover design will be just fine for it. That way it will be done!!

Ok, that’s it for today, to see what others are working on check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall Monday 8/29/11

Here’s what I have on the design wall. I need to work on getting some of my UFOs completed so I pulled this out of the drawer and decided that it will be the next thing that I work on. I need to sew the 2 pieces together and add the borders and it will be ready to quilt. YEA!!

I quilted this UFO yesterday. It’s a raggy edged hexagon quilt. All it needs now is the binding and it will be finished and off my UFO list.

So much has changed…

since the last time I posted anything on here. I really don’t know where to start……………….I guess I’ll go back to my last post and pick up from there. On my design wall was the star quilt that needed the borders, well, I did finish it a couple of weeks ago and we all showed them at our guild meeting. I think 20 people signed up and we only had 3 that finished them and brought them for show and tell. It outgrew the design wall so I had to hang it and let it come over the cutting tables and I still didn’t get the whole thing. Oh well, you just can’t see the bottom borders…..

I also bought another quilting machine at MQS. I now have a new APQS Millineum longarm and I absolutly LOVE it!! My friend Doris named it Millie and my friend Vicky’s husband said that wilth all the quilts I quilt for Vicky, I should name a machine after her. So since the Ultimate 1 machine has the IQ on it, I now call her V’iq’toria. By having the 2 machines I am able to do my custom work on Millie and have Viqtoria do pantographs. Fun,fun, fun!!

Here’s a couple of my UFOs that I finished thanks to Viqtoria!

A little more eye candy…….this is Jill’s quilt.

I worked on my embroidery blocks a bit over the summer. I have 4 finished!! I started these 2 years ago and when I finished the 3rd one, I figured at the rate I was completing them it was going to take me like 30 years!! So I finished block 4 and I’m now working on #5. Maybe now it will only take 20 years!! HAHAHAH!!

I guess that’s it for now. I’m going to go play with Millie and Viqtoria!!

Have a great day!!

Design wall Monday 4/18

Gee, here it is Monday again……..my design wall looks the same as last week.  I knew I wasn’t going to have much time for piecing the last week. This week doesn’t look very promising either. I need to spend the majority of my week at the longarm. I did sew just a bit last night while watching TV. I’m working on the outside pieced border. This is how the blocks will look.

I have all the blue ones sewn together. They still need to be trimmed up to the correct size.

The pink ones are half way done. One more black piece on the other end, trim them up and then I’ll be ready to piece the border.

I am making progress, it’s just slow…….. If it wasn’t for updating the blog here, I probably wouldn’t have gotten any of it done this week. I plan to stick with this top until it’s completed. Wish me luck! Now back to the longarm……..

Maxine challenge at guild

Our challenge quilt for this years quilt show was to use the Maxine line of fabric in a quilt. Last night was our meeting and there were so many cute Maxine quilts there. It was hard to vote on your favorite ones, since I love Maxine and wanted to vote for all of them!!

Maxine met you when you came in the room….

I made my quilt using some of my old Maxine t-shirts. I had enough fabric left over to make a matching pillowcase too.

The quilts were laid out on round tables so some of the larger quilts hung off the sides.

My friend Teresa won first place.

I guess that’s it for now………..

Design wall Monday….4/11

Well, it’s Monday again. I did get a little more done on the piece that was on my design wall last week. The center is sewn together! YEA!!!

I have the strips sewn for the pieced border. I still need to cut the background fabric that has to be pieced into the border. I’m making progress! I don’t know how much I’ll get sewn this next week as my schedule is pretty full.

To see more design walls head over to http://www.patchworktimes.com/ and check it out to see what everyone is working on. Enjoy!

Design wall Monday….4/4

In keeping up to date with my blog, I’m going to try to add some things that need to be kept up. I hope!! LOL!! Here’s what I have on my design wall this week.

This quilt is our guild BOM from 2010. I still need to make the last 2 blocks and cut the background fabric. It has a pieced border that will also be added. Last week several of us got together and worked on the center, which is paper pieced, needless to say I do NOT like paper pieceing!! But we were shown an awesome way of doing it without sewing through the paper!! Now I’m thinking “OK, maybe I CAN do paper pieced blocks…..maybe!!” Anyway, I still have one more PP’d section to make before I can sew the center together. I need to have the top finished by August (I think) so we can show them at guild.)

I guess that’s it for my design wall this week. Over at Judy L.’s blog, you can check out more design walls and see what others are working on. www.patchworktimes.com Enjoy!!

Taking it on the road……..

Yesterday, Sharon and I attended the Heartland quilt meeting. WOW, was it informative! We attended as professionals as our new adventure is to take our lecture/trunk show about our Mystery quilt Lock in to guilds. We have over 30 mystery quilts for the trunk show.  We received a lot of positive encouragement from the other professionals. There were several guilds that were interested in what we offer. Now we just hope to get some bookings!!

There was so much information being given from other professionals on what they do and what works and doesn’t work. My mind is still on overload with all kinds of ideas. One thing talked about was blogs. So since I have a blog……………….

………to be continued.

Theresa 🙂
