Quilts for Christmas

My last minute sewing and quilting was worth it when the kids opened their packages. Tim liked his Rock & Roll quilt and noticed the quilting pattern immediately. I saw him point it out to Sarah. I quilted his with a musical note pattern.

I think his girlfriend Sarah was the most surprised by getting a quilt. She liked hers too!

Sarah likes to do crafts, so she made us a Christmas card! I loved it!!

Christmas in Kansas City

We decided to drive down to the Plaza tonight. I hadn’t been down there in years to see the lights. We took my Mom along for the ride. She really enjoyed it.

Mom couldn’t get out and walk, so we just drove around the plaza. Then we decided to go to Crown center and have dinner there.

It will probably be a few years before we head back to see the plaza lights again. Who knows……. They are pretty though!

Blue quilt is done!

Whew! I was busy today, I got the blue quilt quilted and just finished the binding on it. I usually do my bindings by hand but decided I did not have time so I did the bindings for both these quilts, today, by machine. It goes so much faster. (All they need now are labels, which I have a couple of days to get done.)

I’m almost ready for Christmas now, hubby put the tree up today for me because I haven’t had time to do that. I still have a bit more shopping to do so I’m hoping I can get that finished up tomorrow. I guess that’s it for now I think I’ll call it a day.

Design wall Monday blue quilt 12/22

Okay here it is the last Monday before Christmas and on my design I have a Christmas gift. Last week I decided to make my son the rock & roll quilt, I need to finish the binding on it and then I decided to make his girlfriend a quilt, too. She likes blue and she likes penguins so I came up with this fast quilt, got it made and it’s on the wall now , coming off and onto the LongArm later today.she likes penguins so I’m going to quilt a cute penguin pantograph design on the quilt.

Rock & Roll progress

I worked a bit more on the rock & roll quilt last night. All that’s left is to add the borders. I haven’t quite decided what I will do with the borders as I would like to put the words Rock & Roll from the panel somewhere in the border. We’ll see…..

20141216-092118.jpg

When I was deciding on the blocks for this, I needed 8″ blocks, but when you put them into sets of 4 they become 16″ blocks. I didn’t like the size it was ending up using 3 blocks per row, so I used 3 1/2 blocks per row and alternated the half blocks on the ends. The sashing strips help show the blocks. I like the way it came out.

That’s I for now. Have a good day!

Design wall Monday- Rock & Roll!

A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders when I sent off my quilts and manuscript for my upcoming book. I didn’t realize how stressed I was until I finished everything and sent it off. Now I will work on stress free stuff! LOL!!

Anyway, I finally have something new up on my design wall!  I don’t remember when I bought this little panel, so it’s been awhile, but I ran across it this weekend and started thinking about how to use it.

The squares are 8″ finished size, so I needed to come up with 8″ blocks and I wanted something fast! I decided to use a quick strip block and here’s what I have so far. It went together pretty quick, now I need to put a little black sashing in between the blocks. If I can get it done, I’ll give it to my son for a Christmas present. We’ll see how that goes…..

So for today, that’s what I have on my wall. To see more design walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Binding on the road

I’ve been busy getting everything written for my book and I have 2 quilts left that I need to sew the bindings down on. Since we’re on the road today, guess what I’m getting done? Bindings! Yea! I’m almost finished with this one. 🙂

20141123-110356.jpg

Hopefully I can get them both done and sew the labels on before getting back home. We’ll see.

It’s a dreary day today so I’m glad I have something to look at other than out the window!

Hopefully, we’ll see some sunshine soon. It peeks out every once in a while. For now, I’ll go back to binding.

Wednesdays works 10/1

Wow, can you believe it’s already October? I’m going with friends to the Houston quilt show the end of the month, so that means 30 days and counting!! I can hardly wait! I have a full schedule up until then………
This week has been a busy one for me, and it’s only half over! I completed the second baby quilt that I need for my book and got both of the baby quilts quilted. I used the leftover fabric I had, to piece the backings. IMG_4768

I have a donation quilt, made by one of my guild members, on one machine getting a quick edge to edge design quilted on it.
IMG_4772

Over on the other machine is a custom job. I decided to put feathers around the stars.
IMG_4773

Tonight I hope to cut out the last quilt for the book, just to make sure I have everything figured correctly, then back to writing as my first deadline is fast approaching!!!

Well, my quick break is over for now, I need to get back to those feathers…………..

TTFN!

Workshop day

I had a fun day today with the Country Quilters in Topeka, Kansas. I taught the workshop that goes with my Stash Attack lecture. After the lecture back in July, they asked me to come back and do a workshop. All the ladies were so nice and they all seemed to enjoy the class.
They were lined up along both walls sewing away. I only thought to snap one picture, so here’s the group on this side of the room.

My sister rode along with me, so while we were in Topeka, we went to the Stitching Traditions quilt shop. Nice shop with lots of fabric! I bought a couple of FQ’s that I had to buy. Don’t know what I’ll do with them, but they were too cute not to buy!! LOL!!

Guess that’s it for now. Tomorrow will be a full day of quilting, writing and sewing!

Design wall Monday 9/22/14 fabric…….

Earlier this year I sent in a book proposal to Martingale Publishing Co. Much to my surprise, they accepted my proposal and I am currently working on writing, and getting the quilts made for the book. So this past weekend I finished up one of the quilts and designed a baby quilt. Today I got the baby quilt cut out and sewn together. I would love to show my work on the design wall…………but……………sorry, you’ll have to wait for the book! LOL! I can tell you that I have a cute little baby quilt top hanging on my design wall. 🙂
I picked up several baby/kid print fabrics over the summer knowing that I had to make a couple of baby quilts. I decided to use this one first.

That’s it for me today. Better get back to work, that deadline is fast approaching!!
