Design wall 11/9/15 string blocks

The string blocks are still covering my wall. I’m slowly making progress on them.

I am getting the small squares made into blocks. I am doing them diagonally because the sashing is changing as I go.

I have the next row moved over onto my smaller design wall which is beside my sewing machine. I’m trying to keep these organized and put together Without turning anything the wrong way!! 🙂

Blocks in progress.

That’s it for my wall this week. I did get borders added onto the quilt I made last week. I am doing a program tonight and it’s already packed in the car so I can’t take a picture.

Sharon did get our latest pattern written and it ‘s on our Etsy and Craftsy sites.

Guess I better go finish getting things together for tonight.

Design wall 11-2-15 strings and new quilt top

What a Monday it is here in Kansas City. Our Kansas City Royals WON the World Series last night!! We are So proud of our boys in blue!!

Kansas City also had another big win last week in Houston as our Janet Stone won Best of Show at the International Quilt Show!! Way to go Janet!!

Guess I better get back to my design wall. I have all the 5 1/2″ string blocks made and I have a few of them sewn into larger blocks.

I can sometimes get board working with projects that take a lot of time, so I threw this quilt together over the weekend.

All that’s left is to get the borders sewn on, which hopefully I can finish up today. It’s hanging in front of all the string blocks.

So that’s it for me this week. To see more walls go to http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 10/26/15 string blocks

I’ve become obsessed with finishing these blocks. I have 41 more to make before I can start putting them together. Last night I took the Ks row by row off the wall and started putting the string blocks up. My wall isn’t big enough to put all of them on………here’s how it looks now.

Hoping to finish making the rest of the small blocks this week and start putting them into bigger blocks and working on the sashings. We’ll see!

KS row by row possibilities………….

I guess it’s a good thing about leaving the row by row on my design wall as it  keeps it on my mind. Several years ago I made a quilt from the Wizard of Oz fabric line and I wondered if I had any of the fabric left over and if it would possibly work in my KS quilt. (Since Dorothy was from Kansas.) I had no plans of digging around and trying to find it (since I wasn’t even sure I had any left).

The strip quilt I’m working on has my attention at the moment. I’m not cutting any strips but going through tubs of leftover fabrics looking for strips that are less than 2″ wide. Well, as luck would have it, I just happened to run across the leftover Wizard of Oz fabric! Although there’s not a lot of it, there is more than I thought!! I’m thinking I might add another row to my quilt. Think Dorothy would look good as a row across the bottom? I would have to add to it because it isn’t wide enough.

If I put Dorothy in there, I could use up these fabrics too!

I have one more piece that I fussy cut squares from.

Sure wish I had the whole piece! 😳 oh well……

Eventually I’ll start working on getting all this put together. For now though, I’m going back to strings. I’m halfway done with them!! Yea!

Design wall 10/12/15 Kansas row by row

Since my Kansas row by row quilt top is due before the blue and white row by row is, I decided to get it out and on the wall. I have no idea at this point as to what I will do with it. Hmmmmm…………..

I placed the rows in different places and finally decided that I like the rows best like this. Now I have to decide on sashings and borders.

I guess that’s it for now. Check out other walls at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 10/5/15 string, panel and row by row

Here it is another Monday. Boy, they seem to come fast!

I was gone a few days last week so not much sewing took place. I have to decide what to do with my rows from the row by row exchange. For now they are hanging on my design wall. Along with the extra blocks I have…….

Hmmm…….since I don’t know what to do with it at the time, I’m sewing on a few string blocks. I need lots of these, so I sew on them in between other projects.

What I really want to sew on is another panel quilt. I have a cougar panel that has been sitting around for years and I want to do the same thing with it that I did with the deer panel. I found a couple of blue fabrics that match the blue in the panel but I don’t have a good background fabric, so it will have to wait.

I guess that’s it for now. To see more walls, check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 9/14/15

My lecture Thursday night went great. I had plenty to talk about and actually had to cut a few things short. Everyone was paying close attention and seemed eager to learn some new tricks and techniques about peicing, pressing and adding borders onto their quilts. 😀

I finished the big custom job I needed to finish and got it mailed back to it’s owner. Yea!

Here lately I’ve been trying to sew for myself on Sunday’s. I did get the quilt sewn together that was on my wall last week.

Yesterday I decided to come up with something for the back, so I found a couple pieces of leftover wide backing. I cut and peiced them and added the last remaining piece of the butterfly fabric that I used in the top.

More fabric from my stash! Yea!

After that I decided to see if I had anything that would go with the other stash quilt I made. It’s not made with colors that I normally use, so I thought I was going to have to buy something. Once I started going through my fabrics I came up with some yardage, fat quarters and a piece left over from something. I even worked the last strip I had from the fabric in the top.

Both quilts are now ready for quilting! 😀

After that, I decided to start working on the delectable mountain blocks that I need for the border on the deer quilt. So the deer quilt is back on my wall with one border pieced together.

That’s it for my wall this week. Check out others at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Lecture tonight

I’m a bit nervous about guild tonight. I’m doing a new talk on preparing your tops for quilting and then moving into machine quilting them. I have been worried that I could say everything in 5 minutes, but after getting things packed up I don’t think I’ll have any problem filling an hour!! 😳

I will be showing several of my older quilts that I quilted when I got my first LongArm, 16 years ago. Not exactly the best quilting on them, but hey, you have to start somewhere!!😳 Since most of my nice work has gone out the door with customers, I had to ask a couple of friends if I could show their quilts that I quilted for them. Luckily they said yes! 😀

Hopefully the guild members will leave having learned something new. Whether it’s piecing or pressing the quilt top or choosing thread and quilting designs for their quilt. We will see………….

Design wall 9/7/15 another quick stash quilt

Last week I showed this quilt that I was working on and I got the borders added so it’s ready to quilt. Yea!!

It was such a fast quilt top to make, I decided to make another one with a yard of fabric I had in my stash. I found a light purple that went with the print and found a dark purple for the sashings and borders. I did the strips a little different this time and it was much faster. After I sewed the strips together and cut the sizes I needed, instead of cutting the side strips the correct length and sewing them on the sides, I sewed them into long strips and then trimmed them. Much faster!!

Anyway, I did all that in just a few hours yesterday. I have to get back to machine quilting the next several days as I have deadlines on some quilts. So I just hung the pieces on the wall and will sew a few together now and then, when I have a few minutes. Here’s how this one looks. I think I like it better………

Design wall 8/31/15 quick stash quilt

I thought this would be a quick quilt to make and so far it has been. I sewed on it yesterday, when I needed a break from the LongArm. I have all the blocks pieced and up on the wall.

I found several pieces of a purple batik and I think I have enough of it for sashings and the borders. I’m hoping the binding too, but probably not………

I cut the sashing strips and cornerstones and put them on the wall with the blocks. Also a couple of strips of the purple. So this is how it should look when it’s done.

I’m hoping to get some time this week to sew on it some more. Anyway, that’s what I have on my wall. To see more walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com
