Borders are on

I’ve had a busy week, but managed to find time to get the borders added on to my latest string quilt.

After posting pictures of my pieced borders, I got some positive remarks about them, so I designed another quilt using the diamond shapes. There seems to be no end to the use of strings!!

I am not one that usually does a pieced border. By the time I get the quilt top made, I just want to get those borders sewn on, so that I can get to my next project. For the current string quilt I’m making, I decided that I would put a pieced border on it. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to make these. Now to get them finished up and on to the quilt.😀

Design wall 9/26/17 string progress

My design wall this week still has the string blocks on it. They are now sewn into rows and I have the sashings sewn. Hopefully I can find time soon to get the rows and sashings sewn together and then make the pieced border.

That’s it for now. To see what others are working on check out http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2017/09/design-wall-monday-september-25-2017.html?

Design wall 9/19/17 next string quilt

I can’t believe I have neglected my blog for so long. The last post was about the killdeer eggs back in July! I can happily say that the day we left for our vacation, I got to see 2 little bitty killdeer running across the driveway as we drove down it. I’ve decided that there were more eggs around because I now see 12 -15 killdeer when I drive up the driveway and prior to the eggs hatching I’d see 2 or 3 of them.

Anyway, back to quilts, I finally have something back on my design wall to show. I spent a couple evenings sewing the strings together and today I cut a few up just so I could see how they’re going to look.

Different, but I’m liking them! Hopefully I can find time this week to get the blocks sewn together.

Design wall 6/20/17 string star quilts

My design wall is bare today, I hope to fix that soon, as I am working on my next string quilt.

Last time I posted, my design wall had the beginning of the string stars quilt on it. It is now finished.

After finding an old string quilt top in an antique store I decided that it would be fun to make the same pattern with today’s fabrics. The old top (right) is dated back to around the late 1800’s judging by the fabrics used in it. (I’ve been told)  Mine (left) was made from scraps from my stash over 100 years later.  Anyway,  here they are side by side.

This quilt was a challenge to get made, but it’s done and now I’m going back to making squares for my string blocks! LOL!!

That’s for now. Have a good week!

Design wall 8/29/16 Uneven bars, Kaffe HST’s & apple pies

I got the borders added onto the Uneven bars quilt top. Since I pulled the solid fabric strips for the quilt from a couple packages of precuts, I didn’t have yardage of any one solid color. I debated over what to do and then decided to pull more precut strips of the pinks and use them for the inside border. You’ll notice they are light on the top and then get darker towards the bottom.

It’s now ready to be quilted. It will have to wait for now as I have several customer quilts that need edge to edge designs on them. I did get these all quilted last week.  One small custom and the others edge to edge.

My design wall has these blocks on it today. I’m working on a new string quilt design using Kaffe fabrics. These are leftover blocks that I’ll make into a second quilt.
We’ve been enjoying apple pies this last week too! I’ve made 9 so far. We’re enjoying our 2nd pie, I took one over to my sons house & I put 6 in the freezer.

I was playing around with an app on my phone and put the 2 Uneven bars quilts that I’ve made, side by side in the picture.

They look so different! Hard to believe it’s the same pattern! If you use one of the patterns from my book #Sew,Slice,SpinandSash, I’d love to see it! 😀

Guess that’s it for me today. Hoping for another productive week! To see what others are working on, visit http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 8/15/16 Kaffe strings & new project

Today is the last Monday of my summer vacation.😟 School starts back up on Wednesday, so it’s back to driving the big yellow fellow. He’s back in the driveway and ready to go.

I’ve been wanting to make another quilt from my book and decided that this chevron print will work. I have a couple of snack packs that I can pull the strips from.

I decided to make this pattern.

Hopefully I can get it made this week.

I’m currently working on another string quilt. I’m using Kaffe fabrics in it. The strings…..

The squares…..

I have a few more to make, so I might sew the Uneven bars quilt when I take a break from sewing strings.

That’s it for my design wall this week. Check out more walls at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 8/8/16 string borders

Here it is, another Monday has rolled around. I missed posting my design wall last week as we were on our way home from a quick vacation and then jumped right into work that needed to be done. Fruits and vegetables were ready to be picked and dealt with. I’ve got a freezer full of peaches, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and cantaloupe, all ready for smoothies! Yum!! The tomatoes are slowing coming around, but finally did get enough to can a few quarts yesterday.

We went through Omaha on our way home, so we stopped at Accuquilt and I finally broke down and bought the Accuquilt Go Big. I’ve been having fun cutting strips for more string quilts.

I managed to get a couple of my quilts on the machine last week and did quick panto’s on them.  I’m only showing the block on this one.

The other one I did was a variation of our Cinema pattern.

I had the top made but couldn’t decide on a backing. Saturday, I ran across a couple of fabrics in my stash that had polka dots, so I figured I’d make a pieced backing and use up some more of my stash.

Used up every bit of both fabrics! Yea!!

I’m not showing the quilt that’s on my design wall this week, but it’s getting a string border, which is what I’m working on today.
