New scrap quilt

I have a bad habit of “starting” quilts! I’m trying to get the ones finished that I’m currently working on but the fabric pile of leftover strips is sitting there piling up, so I decided to start sewing them together. Bonnie Hunter has a pattern called Basket Weave Strings. My daughter made one several years ago and I always liked hers, so I decided that it was time I made one for me!
I’m not using a foundation like Bonnie shows, I’m just sewing the strings together, then cutting them into the squares. I hope to make one square a day. I made 2 last night and 1 today. We’ll see how it goes. I made the first 2 blocks too dark, so I have to remember to use lights in them.

I’m caught up on customer quilts that need pantographs done, so I got both my batik ones quilted. Binding attached and ready of be sewn down. That makes 4 needing the binding sewn down. I might have to break down and do some by machine, if the pile gets much bigger.

I also finally finished quilting the huge Generals Wives quilt that I’ve been quilting. 125″ square. This is the last one on my list. I’ve done about 7 of these. 3 of them being king size! Whew!!

That’s it for now.

Our quilt show

Today is our guilds annual quilt show. The weather is beautiful and we’ve had a great turnout of visitors. Sharon and I are selling our patterns here today. Of course when I decided to take a picture it was my sister sitting in my chair! LOL!!

Design wall Monday 4/28/14 batik borders

I decided on a layout for the batik squares. I ended up with something different than any of the choices I posted last time. Now I’m working on the borders. I have the first 2 sewn on. A green and then a light colored batik. I have it hanging on the wall and I’m thinking another thin green border and then a dark batik. (This will use up the 2 scraps I have of the dark batik.) Then I can bind it with the green and use some more of it.

That’s what’s on the wall. I haven’t sewn on it yet today as I’m busy with a custom quilt job on Millie and a veggie quilt on Viqtoria.

Vicky used all vegetable fabrics in her quilt and I found a panto with vegetables, so that’s what it’s getting. 🙂

I remember when I first started machine quilting and the choice of pantograph patterns was slim. Now they have so many great ones out there that it’s sometimes hard to choose one! 🙂

Anyway, that’s what’s going on here, to see what others are doing check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Left over batik blocks

I ended up having 12 squares leftover from the batik quilt top, so I needed to come up with a way to use them. (I didn’t want to have them laying around in a drawer or box somewhere). So I made them into HST’s. Now I have 24 squares, which is enough to do a lap quilt. I played around with arranging them on the design wall and here’s a few ideas….
I could make pinwheel blocks and add a sashing.

Or turn them and make squares on point. Again adding a sashing.

20140425-074924.jpg

I could just make them triangles with a sashing.

20140425-075030.jpg

Or I could do this.

20140425-075147.jpg

Or this.

20140425-075252.jpg

Or this.

20140425-075349.jpg

Or even this way.

Decisions decisions. I’m not sure what I will do with them yet. I’ll look at them today while I quilt and maybe decide on the layout…….

Have a good day!

Batik rail fence

Sashings and borders are on. Yea! It’s now ready to quilt. I have to work on a few customer quilts before I can quilt it though.

I now have 2 of my own tops ready for an all over quilt job. I have the first of 2 black and white strip quilts assembled.
I am making progress on eliminating my stash. 🙂

Have a good day!!

Design wall 4/21/14 batiks

I’ve been doing my 10 minutes a day with the blue blocks that have been on my design wall and I now have 16 blocks done. Yea! I took them down so I could put these blocks up and decide what to use for the sashing fabric and also decide what width to make them. I’m using my stash and these are NOT my colors, so I don’t have much to choose from. I also don’t know what I’ll do for the border. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions…..

10 minutes a day-4/10/14

My design wall has had the same blocks on it for several weeks now. During that time I’ve completed several other quilts, but those poor scrappy little blue blocks are getting neglected. So I am hereby going to dedicate 10 minutes each day to sew on the blue blocks.
As of today I have 10 blocks sewn and I need 32.
My goal is to have the top done by July. Hmmm….better go do my 10 minutes for today…..luckily I have a few 9 patches sewn already, maybe I can finish a block in my 10 minute time frame!! 🙂

Stripping again

I’m determined to lower the amount of my stash and I think I’m doing a fairly good job of it so far! Yea!
Last night I pulled out 44 black and white FQ’s and cut them into strips. They are now ready to sew together.

20140409-100031.jpg

I laid them out from dark to light.

As soon as I get these sewn together I already have plans for the next quilt, using my stash!

Time to strip!! LOL!!
