Design wall 6/6/16

Here’s a quick show of what’s on my wall today. It’s another string quilt that I’ve been playing around with.

All the blocks are sewn into rows and ready for the sashing strips. I’m tinkering around with adding a shadowed border on part of the quilt but haven’t quite decided if I will do that or not. For now it will have to wait on the wall until I get time to get back to it.

That’s it for my wall this week.

Spring market

Ready to start day 2 of spring market. There is so much to see and vendors to talk to to, it can be a bit overwhelming at first. It was exciting seeing my book displayed on the Martingale wall.

My book signing went great and today I will be doing a demo.

The other fun part was seeing  3 quilts hanging in booths that I had quilted.

I forgot to take a picture of the other one.😳. Oh well, maybe I will today.

I’m off now for another day at market!

Design wall 5/2/16 Vintage shirting blocks complete

My design wall this week has my finished top from the blog hop. It’s hard to believe that all 4 blocks are the same pattern. Each block looks so different just by changing the placement of the colors. You can find the tutorial to make my block here https://alwaysquilts.com/2016/04/22/vintage-shirting-blog-hop/ or go to Barb’s site http://barbsfavorites.com/its-blog-hop-time/ to find all the different blocks made from her line of vintage prints by Paintbrush Studio.

For the sashings, I wanted to use up the leftover fabric, so I made them scrappy using a triple sash along with 9 patches for the cornerstones. I am happy with the final outcome and hopefully I can get it quilted soon.

So that’s what is on my wall this week. To see what others are working on visit www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 4/25/16 Vintage Shirting blocks

Last week I participated in the Vintage Shirting blog hop and I made 2 blocks for it. I like the blocks so I decided to make 2 more and I can put them all together to make a table topper. So here they are on my design wall.

I didn’t put any of the light blue in the last block but seeing them on the wall makes me wish I would’ve…….hmmm….might have to make another block…….maybe…..

Oh well, for now that’s my wall. To see more design walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Vintage Shirting Blog Hop

It’s my turn to share a block with you. As usual I seem to be behind schedule. It’s not because I’m lazy and don’t get things done. It’s because I try to get too many things done.  With that being said let’s get straight to the block (because that is what you want, right?)

For my block I chose Square and Stars. I don’t have a reason for choosing this particular block, I guess I just liked it when I was looking through block patterns and I thought that Barb’s line of vintage prints would look nice made into this block.

For the first block I chose these prints.

026.JPG

Cut the following-

1st dark blue cut (1) 4 3/4″ square

red cut (2)  3 7/8″ squares then cut them diagonally

029

light cut (4) 3 1/2″ squares

light, 2nd dark blue and medium blue cut from each (2) 4 1/4″ squares then cut diagonally in both directions

030

light blue cut (4) 2 5/8″ squares

Lay the pieces out like this

032

Sew the red triangles onto the large blue square

033

034

Make the following unit- sew the light triangles onto 2 sides of the light blue  square

sew the dark and medium triangles together

040

Join together to make the unit

043

Sew the light squares onto both ends of the unit (make 2) the sew the above units onto 2 sides of the large square to make the following rows

046

Sew the rows together and you have your block completed.

047

For the second block I chose these fabrics

048

Cut the following

first red (1) 4 3/4″ square

dark blue (2) 3 7/8″ squares then cut in half diagonally

light (4) 3 1/2″ squares

light, medium blue and light blue (2) 4 1/4″ squares then cut diagonally both directions

Here is the second block

Design wall 4/18/16 string quilt

I’ve been having fun making string quilts over the last several months and here is the one that’s on my wall today. All I have left to do is to get the top and bottom black outside borders sewn on and the top will be complete.

I decided to put a string border on this one. What do you think?

Anyway, that’s it for my wall, to see what others are doing check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Lock in mystery quilt

I held off sharing this years quilt until we held our 2nd mystery lock in. Our yearly lock in was a success with  a room full of ladies attending. Lots of show and tell that day too. Here are a few of the ladies lining up to show their quilts from last years pattern Midnight Magic.

It’s always fun to see the variety of colors everyone chooses.

This years quilt is called Knotty Times. We offer several sizes in the pattern so Sharon made the baby and throw sizes.

I made the queen size. If you read my blog back when I was picking out the fabrics, you might remember that I debated over whether or not to use the green. I used it and it’s pretty wild!

Anyway, there is this years mystery lock in quilts. Sharon put the pattern on both our Etsy and Craftsy stores if you’re interested. Follow the link on the sidebar to check out our shops.

Tonight is my guild meeting and we have our quilt show challenge quilts due. This years challenge was string quilts, so I’m looking forward to seeing the quilts. Voting on a favorite though is always hard!
