What a surprise!

Today Sharon and I went to the Marshall Mo. daytime quilt guild and I presented my Challenges, swaps and exchanges lecture. We had a good  time and everyone was so nice. What a great group of ladies and 2 gentlemen!!

During the program, one of the quilts I show is from an online exchange that I participated in years ago. It was shortly after 9-11 and the online group I belonged to exchanged signature blocks done in red white and blue. We each signed our name and put our City, state and country on the block. When I showed it today, one of the ladies said she participated in that exchange and maybe one of those blocks was hers. After the quilt was held up and shown, Sharon looked for the ladies name and found it! Sure enough, she had made one of the blocks. She was living in Vegas at the time of the exchange so her block has her name and Las Vegas. Wow! What a surprise that was to find someone who had made one of the blocks! Here we are pointing at our blocks.

That was quite a surprise today! Pretty cool one too!👍

Quilt #5 of the challenge.

Boy am I tuckered out today. Sharon and I went to The Booneslick trail quilt guild in Columbia Mo on Thursday and presented our Mystery program. Friday we hosted a 12 hour mystery class for them. What a great group of ladies! Everyone seemed to have a good time and several ladies went home with their quilt top completed. Thanks for having us! We had fun!

Anyway, today we headed home. Once I got my car unloaded and all my quilts refolded and put away, then pulled out all the quilts I need for a different program I’m giving on Tuesday in Marshall, Mo ………..I’m tired.😳  I almost forgot about posting a quilt today. I’m late but here it is.

The flowers are English paper pieced.

Ok well that’s it. I completed my 5 day quilt challenge. Yea!!!!

Hey, Vicky Beasley, I am nominating you to do the 5day quilt challenge now. 😀

Quilt #4 of the 5 day challenge

Here’s quilt #4. Sharon and I are teaching a mystery class today so I finally found a few minutes to get this posted. I’ve chosen one of our mystery quilts from a few years ago for today’s quilt. It’s one of my favorites so it stays on my bed. The pattern is called Double D’Lite.

    That’s it for today. 4 down, 1 to go!😀

Quilt #2 of the 5 day challenge

Today I decided to show a quilt that I made back in ????? Actually I don’t remember “when” I made it. And does it have a label with the date????? No. So all I know is that it was around 2000-2003 maybe. I  remember designing it on EQ4 when I first started playing around with EQ.
The quilting is from my early days too. 😜

img_3270Anyway, it hangs in my workroom and nobody ever sees it, so I thought I would show it today. Maybe someday I will give it a name and put a label on it.😳……..maybe!

Ok, that’s it for today. Have a good one!

Five day quilt challenge

I’ve been nominated by my friend Barb Eikmeier to show a quilt a day for 5 days. I guess I will start small. I’ve always admired whole cloth quilts. Starting with a blank piece of fabric and having the quilting bring it to life is awesome.

I quilted it a few years ago on my longarm. I have people ask me that when they see it, because it’s only about 6″ square.

I held the can beside it to help show it’s actual size. It was fun to make and maybe someday I’ll get around to making another whole cloth quilt, but until then I’ll just enjoy my mini!

A new gadget

We quilters love gadgets. We’re always seeing something new and just have to have it! So, at this years lock in, one of the ladies showed me a new thing that she had made and I thought it was really cool so I had to make one. Here’s what I needed to make it.

First I needed a piece of wood.

Then I needed a piece of sandpaper that would fit onto the wood.

I then painted around the outside of the board and glued the sandpaper onto it.

Now you might be wondering “why” I did this……well, it’s for when you have to mark those diagonal lines when making half square triangles.

You lay the fabric square on the sand paper and it doesn’t move while you mark it. How cool is that?

After you’ve marked the line on your fabric, you can rub the sand paper and the pencil line will be erased.

Awesome!!

I don’t know where she heard about this from, but I think it’s really cool. I’m glad I finally got around to making me one of these! Now I need to make a quilt that requires marking half square triangles!! 😀

Design wall 3/28/16 strings again

I have all the string blocks made that I need for my next string quilt up on the wall today.  I have a few of the small blocks sewn into bigger blocks but I took the picture prior to getting them made.

I didn’t get much  done with it over the weekend and with other obligations this week, I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to sew on it this week. We’ll see.

2 UFO’s finished

Woohoo! I can mark 2more UFO’s off my list. I quilted both of these a while back and finally finished the bindings today. It’s our pattern called Daydream. The quilts were made for a mystery class that Sharon and I taught several years ago. Funny thing is that I turned one of the pieced borders around (accidentally) and didn’t realize what I had done until it was pointed out by one of the ladies in the class.😳

After class I decided that I needed to make it the right way. I had enough of the turqoius fabrics to make another one, although I had to switch the placements of them. I didn’t have anymore of the background fabric so I used a different gray print. Although they look different, the center part is the same on both of them.

They are now both finished which is the main thing.

Tell me, Which one do you like? The one on the left or the one on the right?

I like them both especially now that they are done DONE! 👏🏻

Design wall 3/21/16 string blocks

I’m back once again covering my design wall with string blocks. These things can become addictive! I’m planning to make this quilt smaller than the last string quilt I made so it won’t use as many blocks. That’s good because I already have the next one planned.😊

That’s it for my design wall this week. Check out what others are working on at http://www.patchworktimes.com
