Design wall 6/27/16 string quilt borders

Just a quick update here on my design wall today. I planned on getting all the borders sewn on yesterday but we ended up taking a 4 hour road trip to visit relatives. It was a nice day even though we came through rain on the way home. This cloud was pretty neat looking.

It was just a long narrow cloud going acros the sky underneath all the other clouds. Once we passed under it the sun came out. We were hoping that it might have rained at home while we were gone, but no……still dry as a bone. Oh well.

I grabbed my current state bird embroidery block as we went out the door, so that I would have something to work on in the car.

I got the bird done. 👍🏻

I really need to get back to working on these blocks more often. This one is Kentucky……..if I ever make it to the M’s, they’re going to take forever, with all the states that start with M.😳

Anyway, back to my design wall. I had a little bit of time after we got home last night to at least get the first 2 borders sewn on.

I’m going to put a solid black border on next, to finish it off, then call it done. So that’s my wall, to see more go to http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 6/20/16 another string quilt

Last week was a busy week quilting, so I didn’t work on this until last night. Since I had the squares all ready all I had to do was sew and cut them, which took maybe an hour. Now they are on the wall and ready to be sewn into rows. Quick and easy….so far.

Anyway, that’s my wall this week. Check out more walls  at http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 6/13/16 string quilts

I worked over the weekend getting the borders put on the string quilt that was on my wall last week.  My first plan was to only put a string border on the right side and bottom then put the shadow behind them. As I looked at the quilt, I decided that maybe putting a string border all the way around the quilt would look better, although I’m still thinking about that partial string border idea…..😳 maybe not…..Meanwhile, I cut fabric for my next string quilt and when I get time I’ll start sewing on it. It should go together quickly, if I can find time to work on it.

Here’s the finished top from last weeks design wall. Do you like the border??

That’s what I’m working on this week, to see more design walls go to www.patchworktimes.com, I’m also linking up with http://quiltingismorefunthanhousework.blogspot.com/ if you want to see what others are doing with scraps.

Design wall 6/6/16

Here’s a quick show of what’s on my wall today. It’s another string quilt that I’ve been playing around with.

All the blocks are sewn into rows and ready for the sashing strips. I’m tinkering around with adding a shadowed border on part of the quilt but haven’t quite decided if I will do that or not. For now it will have to wait on the wall until I get time to get back to it.

That’s it for my wall this week.

Design wall 5/2/16 Vintage shirting blocks complete

My design wall this week has my finished top from the blog hop. It’s hard to believe that all 4 blocks are the same pattern. Each block looks so different just by changing the placement of the colors. You can find the tutorial to make my block here https://alwaysquilts.com/2016/04/22/vintage-shirting-blog-hop/ or go to Barb’s site http://barbsfavorites.com/its-blog-hop-time/ to find all the different blocks made from her line of vintage prints by Paintbrush Studio.

For the sashings, I wanted to use up the leftover fabric, so I made them scrappy using a triple sash along with 9 patches for the cornerstones. I am happy with the final outcome and hopefully I can get it quilted soon.

So that’s what is on my wall this week. To see what others are working on visit www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 4/25/16 Vintage Shirting blocks

Last week I participated in the Vintage Shirting blog hop and I made 2 blocks for it. I like the blocks so I decided to make 2 more and I can put them all together to make a table topper. So here they are on my design wall.

I didn’t put any of the light blue in the last block but seeing them on the wall makes me wish I would’ve…….hmmm….might have to make another block…….maybe…..

Oh well, for now that’s my wall. To see more design walls check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Design wall 4/18/16 string quilt

I’ve been having fun making string quilts over the last several months and here is the one that’s on my wall today. All I have left to do is to get the top and bottom black outside borders sewn on and the top will be complete.

I decided to put a string border on this one. What do you think?

Anyway, that’s it for my wall, to see what others are doing check out http://www.patchworktimes.com

Lock in mystery quilt

I held off sharing this years quilt until we held our 2nd mystery lock in. Our yearly lock in was a success with  a room full of ladies attending. Lots of show and tell that day too. Here are a few of the ladies lining up to show their quilts from last years pattern Midnight Magic.

It’s always fun to see the variety of colors everyone chooses.

This years quilt is called Knotty Times. We offer several sizes in the pattern so Sharon made the baby and throw sizes.

I made the queen size. If you read my blog back when I was picking out the fabrics, you might remember that I debated over whether or not to use the green. I used it and it’s pretty wild!

Anyway, there is this years mystery lock in quilts. Sharon put the pattern on both our Etsy and Craftsy stores if you’re interested. Follow the link on the sidebar to check out our shops.

Tonight is my guild meeting and we have our quilt show challenge quilts due. This years challenge was string quilts, so I’m looking forward to seeing the quilts. Voting on a favorite though is always hard!
