Design wall 6/13/16 string quilts

I worked over the weekend getting the borders put on the string quilt that was on my wall last week.  My first plan was to only put a string border on the right side and bottom then put the shadow behind them. As I looked at the quilt, I decided that maybe putting a string border all the way around the quilt would look better, although I’m still thinking about that partial string border idea…..😳 maybe not…..Meanwhile, I cut fabric for my next string quilt and when I get time I’ll start sewing on it. It should go together quickly, if I can find time to work on it.

Here’s the finished top from last weeks design wall. Do you like the border??

That’s what I’m working on this week, to see more design walls go to www.patchworktimes.com, I’m also linking up with http://quiltingismorefunthanhousework.blogspot.com/ if you want to see what others are doing with scraps.

  1. Love your String Quilt top. It looks fantastic. The black 3-D border around each block is perfect and I love the unique way you did the outside strip pieced border and the additional 3-D effect on the outer black border.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! Our guild makes quilts for the local homeless shelter and last year we made several string quilts. There is still a tub full of ‘strings’ left and I’d love to use your design to make some more this year.

  4. I didn’t think to ask earlier…. any hints for doing the borders? are they the same size as the string part of the blocks or are they done as strips? I’ll be starting on my first one of these in the next week or so with hopes of having one top completed at our guild’s July sew in.
