Vintage Shirting Blog Hop

It’s my turn to share a block with you. As usual I seem to be behind schedule. It’s not because I’m lazy and don’t get things done. It’s because I try to get too many things done.  With that being said let’s get straight to the block (because that is what you want, right?)

For my block I chose Square and Stars. I don’t have a reason for choosing this particular block, I guess I just liked it when I was looking through block patterns and I thought that Barb’s line of vintage prints would look nice made into this block.

For the first block I chose these prints.

026.JPG

Cut the following-

1st dark blue cut (1) 4 3/4″ square

red cut (2)  3 7/8″ squares then cut them diagonally

029

light cut (4) 3 1/2″ squares

light, 2nd dark blue and medium blue cut from each (2) 4 1/4″ squares then cut diagonally in both directions

030

light blue cut (4) 2 5/8″ squares

Lay the pieces out like this

032

Sew the red triangles onto the large blue square

033

034

Make the following unit- sew the light triangles onto 2 sides of the light blue  square

sew the dark and medium triangles together

040

Join together to make the unit

043

Sew the light squares onto both ends of the unit (make 2) the sew the above units onto 2 sides of the large square to make the following rows

046

Sew the rows together and you have your block completed.

047

For the second block I chose these fabrics

048

Cut the following

first red (1) 4 3/4″ square

dark blue (2) 3 7/8″ squares then cut in half diagonally

light (4) 3 1/2″ squares

light, medium blue and light blue (2) 4 1/4″ squares then cut diagonally both directions

second red print (4) 2 5/8″ squares

Here is the second block

A good tutorial on how to do the block – makes it much easier. I think I like the one with the red center just a little bit more, but both are beautiful and a quilt that alternated the two colorways would be outstanding! Thanks for your block. I hope your internet straights up!

Great color placements as it looks 3D and I really like the one with red in the outer blocks. I follow IbF by email and thanks for a great tutorial!

    Theresa,
I love the hologram effect of the 3 blues, it really makes it look like stars shining thru. Beautiful!

Beautiful blocks and great tutorial. This block does show off many fabrics and looks great with the Vintage Shirtings and Dress Prints line. I think I like the first block best…not sure if it’s the paisley center that attracts my eye. Great job on the pictures…they are so clear and show lots of steps. I am a follower of the Inspired by Fabric blog. What a wonderful hop this week. Thank you for being a part of it!

It seemed so complicated when I read your cutting instructions but then your process of turning the pieces into a completed block were easy to follow. I love both versions.

  14. I love seeing tutorials. It makes life so much easier. Not much thinking involved – just follow the photos and instructions. The blocks look great in both colour ways but I am partial to blues.
I do hope your internet issues get resolved.
